You might reach out to the Vermont Rover guys. 1/2" drain holes shouldn't be an issue, I think the ends are open.

Distortion sounds odd. Is that from heat? I wouldn't think that would be an issue on our frames.

Galvanization is a nasty process that is heavily regulated, I doubt there is much difference between whoever is doing it. I'd go with who ever is closer and can fit your timeline. Sand blast and galvanizing in the same location sounds like the ticket.

The drain holes were mentioned in case there were any closed spaces as the air or moisture inside would be an explosion hazard....but I don't think there are any enclosed spaces in a 60 chassis. The temperature of the galvanizing process is 840 F and I have heard of frames distorting due to the heat of the process.....even in the rover community. I think the rover chassis providers put their frames on a rack afterwards to check and true as needed.


I agree that the process is pretty much the same. I suspect the place that said "min $450" could easily be on par with the place that quoted $1300. The $1300 place called me back on the phone and the guy was good to talk to which is always a good sign for dealing with a business.

I wouldn't be concerned with warping on a 60 frame. They're stout. Rover frames are made of much thinner material, but i never had any issues galvanizing those either.

My advice if you do go this route would be to be sure to run a tap or thread chaser through every threaded hole afterwards, or you will break bolts off.

for sure on the thread chasing. I did ask about whether I should plug with a bolt or just chase after and they said for sure to chase with two. If I put a threaded rod init would very likely break before coming out.

my rover chassis is a box tube but tonyour point it’s definitely thinner wall than the LC C channel.

Really wasn't to bad to get it in place. I didn't put the new down pipe studs in until after the manifolds were on the head and then it did take some effort to align the holes. Of course the one fire wall bolt was a pain to get started in the threads but managed. I pulled the power steering pump and bracket out because the pump has been leaking and someone had used the wrong fluid in it prior to my ownership. I was able to spin the pump by hand and pumps a fair amount out. I'll put my city racer pump and new pressure line in soon after I clean up the bracket. Probably pull the driveline this winter to do all new seals and gaskets and clean everything up.

I just finished the lean drop and setting idle. It’s amazing...first time since I bought it that it holds 650 idle, starts easy. No leaks in engine bay. Holds 17” vacuum. Will get the air clean back in and test soon. Have to wear the surface rust off the rotors and blow the spiders out the tail pipe.

just got back after a 30 mile test drive. The first couple miles I had to spin the tires to turn them back to round from hexagonal. But wow is it better. I can actually push the clutch in and just go to idle. I had developed a bit of a psychosis from the fear of stalling when clutch in. Now it is so smooth and quiet and idling nicely.

I will be doing this very soon... like this weekend. Rings and springs and Remflex and torx studs from @ToyotaMatt. I can't remember from last time if I put the downpipe studs on before or after. I feel like either way will have its drama, so just pick one.

Must be nice to not have a j-pipe and get that end sorted out on the bench instead of laying on your back.

If you have the downpipe disconnect from the cat so it can drop down the. You can put those studs in on the bench. I didn’t disconnect the downpipe so it couldn’t move much.

What I don't like about being a responsible adult is recognizing that while I'd really like to order a Holley Sniper, a 5 speed, a transfer rebuild kit, a 1FZFE bell housing, axle rebuild kits, new suspension, new seats, and scheduling paint work....

I really need to instead buy a new washer and dryer, dishwasher, and glass for the shower to finish my main bathroom, 1x6 T&G pine to finish the interior walls, advantech panels to finish the floor on the second floor of the garage. and on and on and on.


Luckily I'm not 100% responsible adult so I do slip a cruiser item in every once in a while.

I see you need support from your fellow Mudders. This crazy talk of putting the house before your 60 is a a form of depression that is likely to lead to heavy drinking and a myriad of other health problems associated with adulting. I have a nester. She actually just arrived Friday after not having seen one another in person since last December. She is a good cook though which is worth a good amount of the associated trouble.

Nice work!! you did it right when it comes to intake / exhaust manifold. Well done.

you can get away without having it machined flat using the remflex gasket, but if it does start to leak recommend having it milled flat for the next gasket.

Enjoy a correctly running crusier! getting that job done right, doing a valve adjustment and a lean drop tune is one of the most satisfying things you can do to a 60

Came back the other day from errands and apparently left my headlights on. (Note to self....require headlights to key on/off). I came out side later that day and realized the lights were still on. s*** them off and tried to start but only a couple turns before dreaded click.

later I jump started the truck and drove it to go do more chores and the battery seemed to recover. But following morning no crank. So I put the trickle charger on it for a day. Removed charger over night and battery pretty well dead in morning. Sticker on battery showed summer of 2015. So 6 years is about ripe for replacement.

picked up a new interstate battery yesterday and will drop in today. Looking forward to seeing how things work with a fresh battery. Given that your UN off the battery and the alternator just keeps refilling what you use....hopefully a fresher stronger battery will be a little nicer.
