No updates for 36 hours because I got abducted by the owner of this truck to go rescue his HDJ80 that was stranded on the side of the road in Lincoln Nebraska.

Nutshell of the last day and a half in photos

Nebraska via private jet (bad Yankee food)-> Ozark Overland Outfitters -> Mosley Motors

What a trip

These heat shields are usually gone or too rusted to use. I snapped off a couple of the M6 bolts and had to drill them out an add some rivnuts. These things look awesome and really make a difference

While the guy was here planning the exhaust he taught me the proper way to install a Cotter Pin. Cut to length and smashed flush so you don’t get your arm opened up on them. Aircraft mechanic goodness.

Wow! Where did you even find those heat shields? Do they really help with heat? I don’t see many people use them?

They were on the truck. OEM.

Hell yes they help with heat.

Not a lot to update today. I took the jump seats that were powdered to have redone. Sadly as everyone, they are backed up. May be a month before I get them back.

Next i went to my painter and set up a time to get him up here to paint a few things.

Then I went to Lou’s for lunch.

Then I dropped the fuel tank cover and steel tranny hump with Powder Keg for some yellow goodness.

Finally I got home to the final big load of OEM goodies from @Onur

I now have all parts needed to move forward.

In a few short minutes I quickly learned that I have never, ever properly installed a cotter pin and that I often use the wrong size

I feel your pain. I now have this guilty desire to change out my cotter pins so they look right. 🤬 @wngrog, the next time I’m in southern Mississippi I want to eat what you eat. Please help when the time comes.

I will have to get one of the rivnut gizmos and put my heat shields back in, all of my dumb bolts snapped on removal 15 years ago. I see you have a Timbren bump stop installed, which part number did you find that fit the 40?

Steering Day.

Got the EPS column and the NOS steering box mounted. Next was the center arm and then the relay rod and drag link.

I painted the yellow Dobinsons stabilizer to match the rest of the shocks

@wngrog & @jomelo Looking forward to hearing how this thing rides with the Dobinsons setup. Fist time using on a 40? I think you installed a similar kit on that 70 series recently?

My first on a FJ40. The 45 and 70 ride good. This is the first set of IMS I’ve used on a 40. I run them on
My 80 and they are great.

Got the seatbelts back already from Safety Restore. That’s a first class outfit.

I went to put the steering wheel back on with the new blinker assembly and the nut would not tighten correctly so I had to take the column back out and I found I had added an old C clip in the wrong spot and the shaft was not moving out when tightening the nut.

Once I figured that out I added a new clam shell and buttoned it up. This is going to be really slick.

@wngrog came up with a suggestion which I felt was not very Nolen. I assumed he was playing a joke on me. But he mentioned a few months back that some black custom Scheelmann seats might look pretty good in this truck. They are about the same size as the stock ones. And the seating is greatly improved and will help handle the G-forces being thrown by the @FJ60Cam Cop Motor.

We were stuck this week because the Planted brackets that were ordered for this setup did not work at all. This is the second time they have over-generalized their seat application. @wngrog reached out to Cool Cruisers of Texas and they immediately hooked us up with these fantastic seat mounting brackets. The ScheelMann slides bolt right up and we are in business.
