Did you need to relocate the perches on the 70 series axle? On my son’s 1973 FJ40 project, we had to move the perches in on both sides. Not sure if 76+ requires it.
Yes.

No drink, IMO thats to many parts for brakes so it must be a clock or something, & I was refering to the pic of You & Julie a few decades ago on the tool box.
Hey, how far are you from Hohenwald, TN, gonna be there Sun if the drive goes properly, I be looking for Tilda Bogue and the Rock Midget if you are gonna be around ?

Pulling/chasing/installing 20 studs was a big job. I don’t think I’ve ever done it before or I would remember …….

Rear Auburn LSD is plugged in with some pretty new OEM and Metric Overland stainless.

Calling it quits early. Red is on the way home from the airport 💥

Sorry in advance for the probably dumb question, but is a 70 series FF rear axle the same width WMS to WMS as a 40 axle?

Semi and Full Float 70 rears are the same width as the 40 series but the perches have to be moved to use in a 40 series.

It’s basically like putting a narrowed 60 axle in a 40. Great brakes and parking brake all in one. Drum brakes with a single cylinder are great.

Thanks @wngrog I was wondering about getting the handbrake off the transfer case on the 47, sounds like this might be the way to do it

I spent the morning going to look at a FJ60 and the dropping in to see an 85 year old man that built an FJ40 just north of me.

He’s a Jeep guy but is doing a great job on this 40.

Getting the C Clips on the drivers side of an Auburn LSD is tight but it goes in there. Add some LSD additive and top off the 90wt

Got the parking brake cable in. Will measure it then send it off to be modified to use with the handbrake.

Pretty things are very cool, but that jack is almost too pretty 😂. You southern guys have the best food for sure.

Don‘t know what terrain this rig will venture into, but in my neck of the woods and terrain that brake cable wouldn’t last long as it extricates sage, bushes, rocks, etc. Or is it getting tucked away at some point?

That’s the stock location for every 60,70,80 series axle. They don’t get ripped off. This one is missing the tab that goes on the diff cover but the rest is where it’s supposed to be.

Well ok then 👍

I’m a fan of Dobinsons springs and shocks but the dinky stock style shackles don’t do it for me.

Man-a-Fre has a nice set of anti inversion stock height that I ordered to make that right. They are also about 1/2” longer.

Also I measured up the parking brake. Looks like the 70 OEM cable needs 26” and a 40 hand brake end added. I packed up both ends so they know how they both look and I’m mailing it off to California Push Pull

Started in on the steering and got a call from Powder Keg that all the black powder is complete. I’m going to run up there and grab this stuff since it’s a long weekend.

Center arm was shot. Seal was loose and the relay arm was wobbling.
