Well I decided to go ahead and order a couple motors for the winches from Db electrical. I know that one of the original motors works but decided to go ahead and order two. I'll probably try to find a electrical shop here locally and see of they can rewind them just because. In the mean time, two new motors for $176.00 will hold me over until I can get those two other motors rebuilt. I know some guys don't like the db motors but I honestly doubt I'll have to use the winch very often as I'm more of a trail rider and not an extreme off road guy.

Decided to go ahead and buy another collapsable table today in order to get everything organized in some form and honestly my garage was looking like a disaster zone. Anyways here's a couple pictures. Joel and Chris, I'll have room for your guys 8274s here soon. Sully's winch repair is open for business just kidding. Anyways here's a couple pics of what I got done tonight.

If anyone on here is near the San Antonio area tomorrow there is a great event going on at San Jose Mission. The annual "Get Outdoors" event is tomorrow and is open to the public free of charge from 10am to 2pm. This is pretty much your one stop shop for getting information as there will be several local and other Texas state park representatives available. There will be some workshops I believe as well as other "outdoor" organizations that will be there such as the San Antonio River Authority, TPWD river extension folks, wildlife rehab folks, and the Headwaters project that I will be there representing. Anyways stop by and learn something new!

Say what?? Haha either you have been enjoying done cold beers to tonight or you have the same problem as me....iPhone auto correct spelling. Just giving you a hard time I understood. Yea, not sure what I'm doing with the second one yet.

Nice thread man...8274 is on my list of things for the 40, but not at the top of the list just yet.
Maybe you can just rebuild the 2nd one and sell it at a discount.
;)

Thanks pat!

Decided to go with wire cable instead of the synthetic rope due to longevity. I know everyone is going for synthetic but when it is 82 and sunny in march and 100+ in summertime, the ropes would probably need changed out. Decided to go with Warn 5/16 x 125 ft. I was capable of getting both cables brand new for $200 shipped which is also about $100 cheaper than the one synthetic rope I was looking at. The wire that was on these guys before held up for over 35 years, that says something....

Nice score

I thought so too. We will see if it was a good score when they arrive.

what did you do with the old cable and how much was there?

The old cable is now sitting up at Stan's shop (blast the past). He is going to take it to the scrap yard but if you want it I'll tell him not to take it. He won't mind. There was probably 250 feet of cable.

I knew what you meant, find a winch yet? Alex posted a great thread in the classifieds with a few 8274s for under $600. Use searchtempest.com to find you one

Winch update: ahhhhh I can not get the brake pieces to come off the dang main shaft. Any suggestions? The damn brake covers(unsure of the name at the moment) are too tight against the brake and will not break lose so I can get the outside one off. Could really use suggestions, this is what's slowing me down!

I had to use a three arm puller to get it off. Be careful that is just cast and I broke the center piece after I got the top plate off and it wasn't cheap to replace. My shaft ended up not being perfectly straight and that is what gave me problems. I didn't replace it just buffed for reassembly. I'm sure you do but you took off the c clip right

Thanks man! I did take off the c clip, it was so damn tight that the c clip actually broke in two pieces when trying to get it off. My other winch was alot easier to brake down and there was alot of slack in between the two brake covers.. I guess I'll have to go buy one of those pullers
