Thanks man! I did take off the c clip, it was so damn tight that the c clip actually broke in two pieces when trying to get it off. My other winch was alot easier to brake down and there was alot of slack in between the two brake covers.. I guess I'll have to go buy one of those pullers

They'll loan you a puller at Auto Zone or O'Reilly's. Unless you just need an excuse to buy another toy. ;)

Thanks gents, I'll probably just take it up to a autozone this week unless the price is right on a puller.

Have you seen the instructional videos (series) from YouTube,,, some guy posted an instruction for the dis-assembly and re-assembly of these 8274's

...

Yea I saw them, I've got one done. The videos just show you the basics but don't show how the parts were really removed. Good videos though

I would say give it a love tap what a deadblow hammer and see if comes loose.

Thank you! I gave it several love Taps with no luck :(

Sorry that did not work, I guess let it soak some more like you been doing. PB Blaster works wonders on stuff like this. Inspect one you were to take apart and try putting it back together to see if you are missing something. After it soaks you have too break out the BFH and tap again.

Side note... Since you have the cool flaps for the rear can you move the current rear flaps to the front... I alway thought that looked cool

Actually I was thinking about doing that. I'm not sure where they could be mounted.

I can't even get the main shaft to come out... I tried it all giving me a hell of a time

Grandpa said use a bigger hammer!!!

I don't know these winches very well, but could there be a lock pin at all or c clip? Maybe heat, but would that warp the housing? Just spitballing, but maybe soaking it in a bunch of pb blaster.

They do have a c clip, I've removed it.

I have used pb blaster very liberally over the last week to try and help loosen it up.

I have tried to tap out the main shaft with the brake attached but it will not budge

I have whacked the back cover(closes to the upper housing) in hopes that it will tap the outside cover off. I have tried to pry the outside cover off by tapping in a wedge but it just won't budge.

I think my only option left is to try the puller. If the puller fails,I guess I'll take it to a machine shop and see if they might be able to get it off. If there was a way of getting the little square pieces that hold the cover on, off the main shaft that would be the ticket but it doesn't appear there is anyway of doing that.

I'm pulling for you the Warn engineer that designed this may have a trick.... too bad this model has been around for a billion years and he probably isn't around anymore.

I'm sure you'll get it.
Which winch looks better? can you tell how many "Miles" pulls or hours are on them?

Just curious for when I pick mine up.

Yea too bad that gent isn't hanging around this site...

Honestly both are in good condition. Neither show too much signs of wear even though I'm sure there is comparing to new gears but I would have to see new gears to know. One of my winches has a crack in the shift plate so I need to find a used one in order to replace that cracked cover. One of the winches had water in the oil but that is to be expected. I honestly don't think there is a way to know the true condition until you tear it down. It seems like some guys find chunks of metal in the bottom of their lower housing where the oil is. I suggest buying one that you know works, however sometimes like my non operational winch it might just be bad solenoids.

Hows the hunt?

Bolt it to the lip at the bottom of the fender ???

Yea I was thinking about that spot as well since there is already a bolt hole there. Thinking of making a T shaped bracket

The hunt is ok I just haven't found the one yet. I don't want to drive 5 hours to get one either.
I'll get one soon though!
