All the Android units can be set to “fast boot”, it’s just a setting that specifies how long it will stay in sleep before shutting down. I have mine set to only 30 seconds because sleep mode drains the car battery faster. I don’t mind the 30 second boot time because the reverse camera works even if the radio is booting. I have a non-Tesla unit and I’ve been very happy with it

which unit is this one? does it support the stock backup/front cameras?

anyone see anything about 17" version in original post? link is broken and didnt see it on phoenix site

wife called me this morning that screen went out all together, second time happened since thanksgiving, so looking into this

seems like biggest deal (for us anyway with 4 kids) is not having rear entertainment work plug and play, but I'm pretty sure just need to find the right wires to tap as units have RCA outputs, so maybe some manual wiring but still better than forking out for another head unit from toyota

Was an Alpine fan back when I did stereo in my car, would love it if they could make something work on the Halo units they are producing now. Guess I'll keep dreaming.

I called Phoenix this morning to see if they can get the same radio and they dont know about it. I searched elsewhere and couldnt find it. I contacted the company in Brisbane and they are sending me an invoice. It will be more than I posted above, but will worth it if it works plug and play and has an 8 sec boot. Ill post the cost when I get it and I will post a write-up when I install

This is odd. I saw this radio on their website: [PX6 SIX CORE] 16" Vertical Screen Android 8 Navi Radio for Toyota Land Cruiser 2008 - 2015

Claims to be a PX6, but a 6 core processor vs. an 8 core on the Aussie site. Regardless, I like the idea of ordering from a firm that has experience installing the product themselves.

I'm of the same opinion with regards to ordering from an experienced company. I need to do more research on functionality, especially the core utilization (software has to be written in a way that takes advantage of the multiple cores), CarPlay Connectivity and customizability. To me, I'm just buying hardware with the OS and apps installed as a starting point. My goal will be to do much of what the Aussie company is doing in terms of installing, configuring and testing apps. Making improvements to the interface, if allowed and documenting the work in a way that will benefit others. maybe when I get to an ideal state build, I can create a downloadable image of the whole thing to be deployed or even set up US distribution and pre-load/configure for the US market like the Aussie company is doing. All it takes is time. If anyone knows where I can buy some of that, let me know.

I went looking on youtube for some information about how px6 tesla style units worked in general. This video popped up- it's a 19 min install video of a a PX6 unit installed in a 2014 landcruiser:

I know nothing about the install other than the video happening to pop up when I went looking. If the installer/owner happens to be on the forum, please post here or send me a message- I'd love to connect with you. to ask a few questions.

Edit- looking at the longitude/latitude from the head unit, the vehicle is in the Seattle WA area. So- it's likely a US Spec landcruiser.

Did they confirm you can root this unit? I have a much cheaper more generic android HU in my minivan, and without root it is quickly being left behind featurewise.

Nice find. Looks like left hand drive and has Speedo in miles.

No, I haven't validated anything yet. Just experimenting, but I suspect if I can get to a point where I feel confident with the functionality I can work with them to do what I need to do. I suspect if we could get these things properly sorted for the US market and solve for support, a vendor or two might be willing to stock them in the US, which will be a strong motivator.

Thats a great video. The one thing missing is how the dash panels come off. I am sure someone here has done that so I'll try a search

I am hoping I can run Gaia with the vehicle GPS and not need my tablet anymore. One of the many reasons I wanted to get this

how to take apart the dash

Looks like a non nav, but the panel removal should be the same

:) That's my video. I'm on a 2009 LX570. Install was pretty straight forward.

* It does not work with the factory cameras in stock form. I opted to get a 360 camera kit instead and install that. But looking at Toyota/Lexus wiring diagrams there is probably a way to get the stock cameras to work, you just have to put time into it. With the amount of time needed to get it right, I just figured an updated camera system was the better route to go.

* The factory rear tv display(s) don't work with it either, so I opted to get a nice new HD flip down screen instead and it was by far the best decision since it allows you to play videos off of a USB or microSD car as well, and also works with the oem lexus/toyota IR headphones (or any aftermarket ones).

* In order to get the reverse camera to trigger I couldn't find any wires behind the dash to use as 12V trigger, so I had to run a wire to the reverse lights to use as the trigger.

* Boot up is fairly quick even though its not the "fast boot" version. The reverse camera trigger works even before it boots up. So if you start up the truck and immediately go into reverse you'll still get the reverse camera feed even if the system is not fully booted up.

* I have a Google Pixel phone so I tried the Android Auto and it worked okay. But I prefer to just turn on the hotspot on my phone and connect via wifi from the headunit to my phone, and use the apps directly on the headunit, they work MUCH better than over Android Auto or Apple Carplay.

* I use both Google Maps and Waze on the headunit (primarily Waze). I also use Pandora and Youtube Music for streaming. You can even watch music videos on Youtube Music with it.

* Radio functions work flawlessly. With the stock wiring your factory amplifier has to be functioning for it all to work. But you can easily install an aftermarket amplifier instead of your factory one.

Let me know if ya'll have any questions. Happy to help.

I might be wrong, but the video from the 2014 LC seems to use the stock cameras! The only thing holding me back from buying this unit is the lack of OEM camera support and the LC video here got me excited :)

Thanks for posting!

My ML 19 speaker, 12 channel amp is broken. Can you address whether this unit has any multichannel capability for using an array of aftermarket amps, or would a separate sound processor be necessary?

In particular I’m most concerned about the center channel. The rest can be handled with crossovers or common processing, but I’ve had volume and bias issues with ‘combined’ centers in the past.

Your video mentions an external microphone. I haven't seen that anywhere else- is that part of the kit or aftermarket? Simple plug and play? Looking at the Landcruiser versions the microphone appears to be on the right side of the screen which would be appropriate for a right hand drive vehicle, but I expect it will be pretty poor for US spec. I know you can't speak to the Landcruiser version, but I'm hoping the wiring is similar.

So as I've said I have a broken Mark Levinson amp, part number 86280-0W190 LX570 2008-2009 (I think, though this is an upgrade in the 2009 year, so there are at least two possible amps). Whatever amp it is, it runs 19 speakers in 7.1 architecture over 16 speaker sets (19 speakers) (12 channels) at "450 watts", according to this:
and this:

To fix this amp is at least $400, and I think they are surcharging the version I have an additional $250. That's $650.

So I've been trying to see just what would be required to full replace the whole thing and not have to worry about additional future, fixed price repairs. Of course the is also modernization etc, but also some drawbacks in the non oem platform.

Minimum package
Head Unit - $1200 or so (per this thread). The head unit can drive four channels at around 40watts per channel. I'm going to make the assumption that these channels can't be controlled well enough, so I'll ignore them.
Crossovers, Time Delay, Amplification - Need three for 12 channels.
$330 -> There are several options here - Kenwood 4 channel with basic filters is $110 each. Pyle 4 channel with no filters are $40 each.
Speakers - Reuse
Interconnects - Reuse
Total: $1530
You'll also need something to deal with time delay if you really want it to be 'stock sound'. The best off the shelf option is the Alpine 8505 ($700) The other option would be two Dayton Audio DSP 150s. ($300 total). The last and probably least attractive option for most is homebrew DSP, which is about $35/per (if you prorate the programmer). Six are required ($200). Interconnects are misc around another $100.

*Edit - found an all in one amp + DSP
*Edit 2 - update for what the options really are after taking mine out and homebrewing a solution

So I looked up the electrical diagram for the amp. It is powering 12 channels. For the channels with multiple drivers assume passive crossovers, the wires seem to go straight thru with only intermediate connectors.
Input - 2 channels (R+, R-, L+, L-). There is a DVD line which is what I assume does the 5.1 and 7.1 for dvd audio etc.
There are Tx+ and Tx- to control the volume on the amp and assumably manage the sound modes and speaker balance and fade. There is a mute line.
Driver - Amp channel
Front 2 and Front 3 L - 1
Front 4 Center (two drivers) - 2
Rear 3 R - 3
Rear 3 L - 4
Front 1 L - 5
Front 1 R - 6
Rear Set L - 7
Rear Set R - 8
Sub - 9
Rear Header L - 10
Rear Header R - 11
Front 2 and Front 3 R - 12

*Edit -> the factory HU can in fact be used as a source no problem after replacing the amps. The only things that won't work are DVDs, the volume knob and steering wheel volume controls. An alternate volume solution is required Along with amps, crossovers, time management etc
