It would seem that we should be able to keep this feature adding an external switch which would replace the relay controlled by the head unit

Looks like the relay is located in the engine compartment

thinking if you pulled the relay and added a switch between pins 3 and 5 in the socket that would provide the ability to use this feature I didnt even know we had :D

Not really instructions, but a set of pictures on how to install from their site

I am really tempted to go for it. I would feel better know there are others who have it working with no issues other than the wiper de-icer

i got a reply from the Aliexpress vendor. They report 'many' successful installs in LX570s (specifically 2009 with Mark Levinson 19 speaker setup). As my 19 channel amp is broken, I continue to pursue them for information if the amplifier is required to be in working order. I will assume it is, as the head unit has only 4 channel amplifier built in. Still waiting for them to confirm or deny.

Definitely interested to see how this works and to get some info / video on the install.

Romer, If you decide to go for it I'm happy to give you a hand with the install as I'm considering it as well. I'm not too far from you and I know sometimes another person comes in handy.

Just ordered the 6 Core version with Android 9.0 from Phoenix Automotive. Its a gamble, but I don't use the rear screen and it seems like everything else should work. My focus will be on CarPlay integration (bought the wireless dongle), GAIA either directly in Android or in CarPlay, Bluetooth connectivity and control of a Mobile HAM unit when I find one that has bluetooth app control. I'm sure I saw one once that did. Not too worried about cameras aside from the rear, which should work as well. I will do a detailed install video and a thorough test of functionality once it arrives.

This may be the same radio. Another member PM'd this to me and the Australian company Guaranteed it would work in a US Spec unit

What is enouraging is the 8 sec boot time and also the video going through the functions

What add ons if any did you order besides the dongle? Did you talk to them before you ordered? Curious if they told you something that made you go for it

I just got the wireless CarPlay. I sent them a pic of my dash and Y/M/M. I only pulled the trigger because I’m tired of wondering.

Do you know what version you got?

The aussie company sent me an e-mail response

we have the latest model with Octa-core CPU, inbuilt Apple Car Play, Split Screen etc. it looks like Phoenix are selling the older model.

we preload mapping apps ready to go and offer full support for installation. i helped deswign these myself with the Factory in China. i know them very well

The Aussie one is like 70% more expensive isn’t it? 6 Cores should be plenty especially since I’m not even sure any of the software is written to use them all. I’m looking at it as an expensive experiment.

that is in AUD. Its about $1000 in USD and I think you take 20% off for no GST, so just a bit more expensive. I asked them to qoute the radio and shipping in USD. I will post up what I find

Plus looks like carplay and android is built in so you dont need the dongle and has an 8 sec boot time

That video is eye opening. It's probably the same hardware as the Phoenix system (they do list a PX6 system in addition to the older unit). It would be fantastic if it were possible to integrate an external microphone for left hand drive cars. I think the only thing lost in the 2014 cars is the nav integration with the instrument cluster.

It looks like the Aussie unit works with the external temperature buttons, and they integrated an external camera switch. Presumably it's possible to plug the "view" switch on the dash into the unit in the same way, but I suspect it would require cutting wires. Add an external switch for the windshield wiper defrost and you have a near OEM solution with everything in the front working. Specs also list an HDMI input/output- I suspect there's a way to get the rear screen working using an HDMI to composite AV converter. In the 10 years I've owned a Landcruiser I've never once used the rear screen so it's not a big deal to me, but I do hate to have non-working equipment on principle.

I have too many projects going at the moment- not letting myself add to the list, but I'm tempted. That video makes me less interested in trying to integrate the factory non-nav hardware- if it works. I prefer buttons to touch screens, but I don't use the buttons on the console much today anyway.

I called Phoenix this morning to see if they can get the same radio and they dont know about it. I searched elsewhere and couldnt find it. I contacted the company in Brisbane and they are sending me an invoice. It will be more than I posted above, but will worth it if it works plug and play and has an 8 sec boot. Ill post the cost when I get it and I will post a write-up when I install

Is the Apple CarPlay wireless? That’s an important factor for me.

It says "APPLE CAR PLAY / ANDROID AUTO Built in " that is all I know. Based on that I would assume so. No need for a dongle

I ordered it

$1050 USD shipped to my door. Like I said a bit more $$, but then it is also the newer version from a company I believed has installed them in Cruisers themselves
