Does that sound about right? I lock out the overdrive and depress the ECT button at all times (unless on the freeway).

If your locking out he overdrive all the time then yes. I'd stop that.
95% of my driving is on rolling country roads and the overdrive is annoying. Constantly having to mash the throttle to force a downshift just to cruise up a hill.

I know what the ECT function does, but what does it stand for? Electronically Controlled Torque?

By the way, CEL was on when I bought it, ran it for a week to measure mileage, worked on the battery terminals today which cleared the CEL (O2 code) and the CEL has not returned. I'm hoping the low mileage was due to running in open loop.

With the center diff locked, low or high, I hear heavy clicking while turning. This would be the Birfields, right? Add moly grease to verify, right?

Sounds like you were running around in open loop which would cause lower mileages.

If you're getting clicking in the front ends it's likely worn birfs, if you're getting clicking in the rear end it's possible the previous owner installed a "lunchbox locker" they click in corners.

Moly grease for the knuckles is what lubricates them and might buy you some more time but clicking is an indication of wear, as the slot is worn larger than the ball.

Thanks.

That's somewhere in the neighborhood of what I get...but I'm on 40's. As far as diesel goes...I'm on the same path to fuel economy... except that diesel is only $0.10/gallon more than regular around here...and cheaper than regular in some places in the county and state. So I'm glad I don't live where it's "double" the cost of regular. Which you'd think isn't plausible at all, but you never know. What I donknow is that on winter blend I get about 2mpgs less. If diesel was twice the cost I should still be saving money every month with the expected increase in fuel economy. Anyway, that's my $.02

If you where a criminal and burned off road it's about $2.07 a gallon :skull::skull:

I got 10mpg when my truck was in socal. In florida i get about 12mpg. Better gas i guess....

Electronically controlled transmission. I would be using that feature on rolling country roads too.

Cruisers are gas guzzlers, no two ways about it. But Jesus, that MPG is even worse than my 3FE FJ62.

Yeah, of course if you deliver fuel for a living and want to sound educated and cool when you're flirting with someone's girlfriend you'd know that that #1 off road only and #2 low sulfur are the exact same thing but they add red dye to the off road only LOL... SOB has my girlfriend convinced of it. I tried telling her he's a tool and knows nothing but she can't comprehend that he only delivers fuel...doesn't make it lol. I tried asking her a logical question and she couldn't answer it...I asked why the refinery would take the exact same fuel add red dye which costs extra money and then sell it for something like $.75 a gallon cheaper? Does that sound logical? Spend more money and sell for
Less? Apparently he couldn't give a legitimate answer either. Anyway, I have known some people who ran ORD in their daily drivers, not environmentally sound practice but it sure would be nice to pay so little for fuel.
