We drove off slightly disappointed. I came in search of an answer to one of life’s biggest questions, but only found a collection of other peoples scraps.

We decided to go check out the Great Sand Dunes to salvage the rest of the day. It was Fathers Day, after all.

When we pull out on to the highway, the universe sends a sign that we are still on the right path - a rainbow. This one emerging from a cloud that looks kinda like male private parts, but a rainbow nonetheless (it was much more visible in person)

It’s okay if you don’t understand the significance of rainbows, especially doubles, but trust me - this was as clear a sign as you could hope for.

The sand dunes were definitely cool. They come out of nowhere too. You’re just driving along and they suddenly appear.

We rented some boards on the way in and made the trek to the dunes. Walking uphill in soft sand at 7500’ is a lot of work for us flatlanders, but we persevered.

It’s pretty brutal once you get up there with the wind and sand blowing. Perfect if you need an exfoliation treatment.

We climbed to the the tallest dune we could find and, of course, sent a kid first to try it out

I used to skate 30 years ago, so I figure I’ll try the stand up board. Not sure what I was thinking 🤣

You would think the sand provides a soft landing, but what doesn’t translate on video is that I was going about 80. It felt like I got hit by a semi.

I must have had a minor concussion because it knocked some sense into me. And by sense, I mean I sensed that I was receiving an answer to my question.

Only problem is that I didn’t have any idea what it meant.

It had something to do with it being Fathers Day and the UFO Observatory. Something to do with all of the junk out there.

I ponder this mystery message for the rest of the evening as we drove to Salida, still unsure if it was extraterrestrial in origin or the result of brain trauma.
