The 60 series bug finally made its way to me. I started looking towards the end of last year. Not exactly sure what I wanted; either a built one or a bone stocker that i could build..
I finally settled on this 62 which was local to me and has MUD history. @ClemsonCruiser and @tsototh were both previous owners and provided me some info of its life and build details. I appreciate the help since I know 40’s very well but nothing about 60’s. I initially wanted a 62 that I could take on trails and go camping in but after getting it here and staring at it for a week, I have decided to not only fix areas of neglect over the years but to strip off the bedliner on the bottom which is hiding some rot then repaint it. I’m already troubleshooting wiring problems as no parking lights and high beams are working... I’m sure I will need help with this as I go along, so be prepared...

Welcome to the FJ60 crew! Enjoy

Spent little time in the shop tonight. I checked all fuses and wires that I could see under the hood. Didn’t get voltage to the sockets so could be a bad ground or wire is cut somewhere, unless someone else has any input...?
Over the last few years it has not been cared for. Who knows where it’s been since @tsototh sold it almost 10 years ago. The wiring has been hacked up and stray wires are everywhere. I’ll get it sorted out over time.
I did have this one light laying on the inner fender working....

Time for an update. Been spending lots of time in the shop knocking out my to do list on the 62. I got all lights finally working.
My tag light housing was badly rusted out so I replaced that. Took hours to figure out why it still wasn’t working. It came with 24V bulbs....:meh:
I installed 12V led bulbs and it looks great. It might actually be too bright.....

Started digging into the battery terminals and random wire stretched across the engine bay. That drives me crazy to see loose wire everywhere. Then I find connections like this:

I’m still not sure why a fuse-able link would be bypassed and not replaced. I’ll be fixing all these cut and bypassed connections as well as my temp gauge and speedo are not working either.

Been way too long since I’ve updated this thread. I got all electrical sorted out and been driving it when I can. Still having a shifting problem but haven’t spent much time messing with it.
I decided to remove the square and tall roof rack until I can get a better one. Cleaned the 20 years of crud from under it too and removed the chrome trim around the rain gutter.

I posted this info on another thread but thought I’d put it here too. I really liked the hydraulic struts for the hood conversion so I did some Research and bought this kit from amazon and it was a direct bolt on just like in the video. I don’t remember which tap I used for the hood... 7 or 8mm maybe? Anyway, it turned out really good and I’m glad I did it.

I’ve been having trouble with the transmission shifting up or down. I’m new to 62’s and I thought it was time for a rebuild. I later did some searches on MUD and found lots of threads on the issue. Reading similar issues I ordered a new kick down cable, trans filter and pan gasket. Due to work I haven’t been able to get anything done on it so it’s been parked for more than a month. Today was the day!
I drained the trans, and removed the pan. I then reached in and removed the cable from the spring bracket:

Pictures aren’t the best but wanted to post a couple to show where it’s located. There are 3 tabs that hold the cable to the housing. I broke all 3 so I could pull it straight out. Then I removed the other end from the throttle body (the cable with the orange cap).

After installing the new cable I adjusted it on the bracket until the steel cable wasn’t slack anymore. I filled it back up with fluid and took it for a ride. It shifted perfectly. It was great running it through the gears and it Shifting the way it’s supposed to up hills and down. I haven’t seen many pictures of this so I thought I’d share the 2 points where the cables are connected.

Nice thread, good to see that 62 getting some love. Keep the updates coming.

I had a bad exhaust leak and a hesitation/skip while accelerating so I finally got around to tearing into the intake and exhaust manifolds. I didn’t take any pictures of inside the intake housing but it had the worst build up of carbon and sludge that I’ve ever seen. Not sure how it was even running well at idle. I was able to find and fix the culprit to the exhaust leak too. These are all the pictures that I remembered to take.

What all did you do with the 3FE exh manifolds to cure the leak?

I need to do this some day, mine has a solid “tick” and one of the front manifold studs has been broken off...no idea how/when th’hell that ever happened.
I tore down and refurb’d the entire intake and injectors years ago....it’s a freakin mess in there...really want to do it again with complete desmog and do the exh manifolds.

The engine was rebuilt last year and the best I could tell they re-used the old manifold gasket and didn’t attempt to clean the surface which caused several areas to leak. Also there was nothing in the exhaust flanges either.
I also adjusted the valves before tearing it down. Each rocker was too tight.
Just took it for a 20 mile run and It’s running better than it has since I’ve owned it.

What part is that you cleaned all the carbon from?

What part is that you cleaned all the carbon from?
The Upper portion of the intake manifold. The large part that has the EFI decal on it. I’ve cleaned out lots of throttle bodies and intakes over the years and I have never had one this built up in carbon. I really hate I didn’t take any pictures of the clean out. I only managed to take one of the cold start injector and by the looks of it, you get the idea of how bad it was.

Specifically what part is that your are holding in your hand? Is that part of the intake manifold? What is that part called
