The harness in the kit wouldn't be a bad idea for the tired original wiring. Additional fuses and relays and better wiring in it to help things. Not sure if it would improve the lighting that much. I didn't notice a big improvement between using the harness and using the original wiring (I switched between using it and not to see if there was a vast improvement in the brightness, I didn't see any real difference on my truck). I ran with the stock wiring because it made my HBI work to pass inspection until I could get another harness. I am not sure it matters really but I did spring for the ARB harness more for fire prevention (and making my HBI work) than anything. The fact they include a harness in the Koito kit prolly tells you its better with than without. That kit is a great buy IMHO. HTH.

I don't think the ARB offers more protection necessarily than the harness that comes with the Koito kit. It just for whatever reason makes the HBI work, which is really why I went with it over the Koito harness. The HBI bit with the using the Koito harness seems hit or miss. Works sometimes for folks with the Koito harness, sometimes doesn't. For me it didn't. I am not sure here but my take is that the H4's with the kit comes with an added amperage draw over the stocker lights and having better wiring and relays to handle the increased requirements over stock lights is prolly a good idea. This is purely a guess as I never tested it when I added the H4 lights. The harness is likely not needed really, but they include it for some reason and I would say they know better than me. Lots of folks run the H4's on the stock wiring with no issues. It has an additional fuse in it if memory serves and has proper relays to serve the power requirements of the H4's in the kit so just adds some additional overload protection. I just didn't see any difference in brightness using the stock wiring over the harness. All the ARB harness did for me over the one in the kit is make the HBI work. I am not sure why it does, but it does for whatever reason. The ARB has three relays in it over the two in the Koito kit, so my guess is its to do with that. But its pure guesswork on my part. Not sure if the HBI matters for inspection in Conn. but it did in my state. Hope that helps some.

You can run without it, You can run with it. Big thing is if you run higher wattage bulbs then the stock harness will suffer (think melting or fire), vs the secondary harness (any quality harness with external relays) will not as the relays will deal with the initial spike.

LED's are great for light output and unless heated ($$$) suck in the snow, and I mean suck. They do not melt the snow and will pack up reducing your lighting. This I know first hand.

Stay with the Koito lights they are fantastic and I liked them so much in my 60, that I am also running a set in my Jeep. They are also what Daniel is recommending now with better bulbs.
 
Picked up the H4 kit yesterday. Not sure how fast I’ll get this in… weather pretty nasty the next handful of days. And jumped into an alternator replacement on the taco so hoping to finish that today.

I still have the kit that I bought a few months ago in the basement, also waiting on the weather to improve. It's 3 degrees outside this morning and we got about 8 inches of snow yesterday, with a high today of 20 degrees.
 
Alt done on taco. Kinda a pain in the ass but impressive to see at 250k this was probably the original in it.

That Koito kit is the best upgrade I did to my 60, especially for the money. You won't regret it. Actually made the headlights useful again and I felt comfortable driving at night!

Truck is looking great!

I still get flustered… I’m out of practice. Someone tagged me to a carb thread the other day and as I read back I was floored how smart I managed to sound!

The c-channels? Yes I do all my own work… are mine bad? Hahahaha! Truck has been in New England since I think about ‘02.
I’m going to order an air chisel. Should be a blast.
I plan to drop the fuel tank at the time seeing as I need to put a new used fuel pickup in I’ve had sitting around from @cruisermatt. Mine leaks if the tank is full. That will make it a bit less awful.

Yeah I’m aware. I pulled two body mounts and rebuilt them when I patched my frame. I got into a good rhythm w/ my angle grinder and dremel but since these will be IN the channel I get I’ll need better access.

Yeah if there was better access a grinder would do well. The air chisel I bought didn’t have enough ass and just kinda pecked at them, I ended up stepping up to an IR. But still a beating because of the confined work space. But from what I’ve read in your build thread…..you will knock it out, I have zero doubts!! 👍
