Interesting, I've been curious what percentage of people are mistrusting / questioning the official story. Seems quite a lot. I've gone off the deep end into this so I won't get going here especially on a 60 series forum... but good to hear your guys's perspectives. Just trying to keep the build going with all this virus is throwing at us.
 
My go to person is wheeling... dang. Barely getting 0.002 inch per the dial of thrust IF I’m doing it right. Book says STD of 0.0024-0.0063 inches. Think I should have a bit more movement? Probably answering my own question... order thinner thrust washers. Yay?

felicity, the redneck enginerd in me says run it, cuz wear down the road will open it up. if i'm reading your posted specs correctly it's only 4 10thousandsth tight. you might be able to pick that up with scotch brite used on the thrust surface. if any of the engine builders on here read this, please correct me if i'm wrong.

I think after my second measurements I’m good anyhow.. per the book.

Welp con rod caps are torqued. Checked thrust and get a back and forth of about 0.007. Futzing that thing into position was thrillingly annoying. Pictures were the first set, I rearranged the position of the gauge more parallel to the sides of the block and the pointer more horizontal which gave me a larger swing. It’s still teeny compared to how much movement I had way back when I found the partially spun cam bearing.

Looks good. What is your main and rod bearing clearances using the plastigauge?
Sorry if that was earlier but I didn't see it.
 
Found that my timing plate has a nice slight concave shape... makes sense from being pried off. I cleaned it well. Used a sheet of emory cloth wrapped around a thin flat piece of maple to take down the raised edges at almost all the bolt holes front and back.

Oy! I didn’t do them this time... hehe ***. I did it last time I put stuff together late fall and they were right on... so, I’ll be going w/ that reading. Edited, found that I had only done the mains which were 0.002 inches. I found that I had not done the con rods. So when I flip over the block to do the oil pan, I'll pull a cap and see what it shows. That will be later tho... gotta do some bee stuff and go get food and water at the spring.

Crap, I forgot to order an oil pan gasket. Dern!!!! All the bs, it’ll take forever for the Toyota dealership to move their butt.
 
Found my spare gasket!
 
How do the Oreos fit in to timing plate? A trick you need to share?
