I have the Harbor Freight Shrinker/Stretcher set. Works great. Used it to make all the aluminum trim on my teardrop.

As an original east coaster and now Californian....I don't miss anything about the east. Smog isn't even that bad to deal with.

And very little rust, even with the beach being less than a mile away.

Wow, good progress on everything! I see you broke out the plasti-guage to double check the math on the crank, but did you check the ring gap in the bore?

Shop overbored. I’ve only begun adding the rings to the pistons; one is done so far. Had to stop to get ready for work at 3.

Work... always getting in the way of important stuff Just for peace of mind, fit (at least) one set of rings in a cylinder bore, and check the gap. You can probably assume all six sets of rings are the same size, but I would surely check at least one set. As an engine builder, it was one of the most common "out of spec" component we would find. Grinding rings was pretty common. It's worth a check.

K, I can do that. Thanks for pointing it out. I have one set installed so far... fussy little job esp with the lube making things all tacky. I'll give the gap check a try after work today.

Very good info but if I have to critique him as an instructor ..he really gets on my nerves when he condescendingly asks "does that make sense?" numerous times and says "k" as in "OK" like agreeing with his own instruction a few times. Another one that bakes my noodle is when instructors say "see what I'm saying?" or "right?" while instructing as if they want you to nod and say yes every time they ask.

Per ring gap. I checked one set. They go down deeper than in the video. .014 fits snug and I’ve misplaced my .026 but the .025 won’t fit. Initially I was worried I wouldn’t be able to pop them back up and out but it wasn’t an issue.

I enjoy all aspects of the truck thus far other than electrical. It feels good to know I’ve done so much only w/ the help and guidance of all you men.

When I got home last night I had to go back to the garage to settle a thought I had floating around my head all day. Had I pushed the rings too deep w/ the piston and would the gap be different if only squared about one inch into the block? So one inch down I got the same reading. Curiously now wondering are our cylinders tapered?

Sat at the kitchen table (it’s amazing the versatility that table allows) and installed the remaining rings to the pistons. I’ll say it here cuz I can... assembly lube has a stretchy tackiness not much different from duck egg whites or man jiz.

You had the block bored oversize correct? Then the gap better we'll be consistent the whole length of the bore.

Yes overbored. So the bores aren’t tapered tho?
