I have machinist friends w/ tools so figured if I could borrow and I’d at least have access to the right numbers. Maybe overkill that will just make me have too much info and cause me to feel far more compelled to do it the right way.

Lol! Yeah do you think Evil Kenevil did absurd physics calculations before a jump or just lots of coke? I venture to say he just got hammered and went for it most of the time. Not saying you should get hammered... maybe afterwards...

Yeah I think he only expected his rig to last for one jump however. And I'm not the expert but I bet coke cost more per gram than bearings. It's Felicity's rig she can do as she pleases. But there is a reason my truck has 361K on it and better than acceptable compression. In the 80's the domestic automakers were eyeballing things and calling it "good enough". Most of us know how that went for them. Toyota was doing things differently. I mean how many Broncos or Blazers are out there with 300+ on the clock.

I understand the budget but if tools can be borrowed then it doesn't cost anything (but time) to document where you are today so down the road you can make informed decisions. Let's just hope the decision point is farther down the road and not just around the corner.

I'm sure Evil's conversation with his planners went something like this:

Management: So, were using these shocks and bearings because they weigh less. We're adding a degree of incline to the jump to get a few more inches of lift...
Evil Kenevil: All I need to know about weight and inches is how many inches of coke to weigh out!
 
The backside of the bearings should have identifier stamps.

Yeah, throw some fresh STD bearings in. If you’re going to all of them, make sure that they all have STD size in them. They likely all do but make sure.

If I decide to get daring, I’ll pull the timing plate and replace the gasket which I already have. Also did some lurking and found that the screws for the 3FE are torx and better than the slotted stock screws.
Bought two keys as well. Big purchase... all 5 items $23.99.

If I remember my physics, and I’m too lazy to check the internet, torque = length * force. So if you double the length the torque will be double. Change your torque setting to 124/2 with double the lever arm

The advice to get a longer cheater bar to get enough torque on the wrench to get it to click is good.

The advice to halve the setting while using the bar is bad.

Do not change the torque wrench's setting to compensate for an extension. This will result in the wrong torque. (When using a crow's foot socket it is required to recalculate the settings. An example would be re-torquing the head bolt hidden under the push rod rocker arm assembly.) If you can get the click with a cheater, great. If you can't, get a little help. Keep in mind you're going to need to get 48 more clicks (6 rods, 2 nuts/rod, 2 clicks/nut, first with plasti-gauge then again for final assembly) when making the decision to ask for help. It's also important to keep the rotation directly around the bolt's axis. Straining arms and body while bracing knees and feet can result in pulling off plane (at an angle). This will affect the actual torque applied to the bolt. It could result in low torque and a damaged fastener.

I agree with the notes others have posted about the bearing wear looking normal for that age of engine. My machinist only needed to polish the rod journals on the 2F out of Juggernaught with 165k miles. The mains did need to be turned down. New rod bearings are reasonably affordable and it is worth the effort to replace them. Be aware of the oiling orifices and how the bearings must be oriented to keep the holes open.

Great work, Yota. Keep it up. The weather should be cooling off a little, making the work more pleasant.

Yeah, my excuse is I have a brain injury from a car accident. Don’t listen to anything I say! Double the length, half the force equals the same torque. Makes more sense! Thanks for catching that!
 
Thanks all for looking out for me. I ordered a set of STD bearings last night from TPD for $83 and change. My dealer couldn’t do much of a matched price.
And appreciate the correction in the wrench numbers w/ cheater. I totally get that adding length means keeping a hand at the socket to avoid any type of tipping or angling. Very very aware of body alignment to pivoting socket.
 
This came to me because I figured since it’s off, I’m going to have the front valance painted.... Red.
Going to blend it in w/ some pinstripes and a large TOYOTA across the bottom of the rear doors.

Masked out a few lines just to get an idea while kiddo napped. Couldn’t find a roll of string so used a chalk string line taped taunt.

That pinstripe will look awesome! I like it either way, high or low.
 
Planning on boxing in w/ red.... possibly laying an orange then a dark brown along the top... and TOYOTA much bigger but my printer is being wenchy so I’ll have to enlarge elsewhere. Plus I need to pick up plastic stenciling sheets.

Absolutely love the color and stencil! Have you mocked up putting the "Toyota" at the bottom front corner instead of rear? Might look nice, kind of forward-looking.
