Very interesting for sure. No special insight except to say I own the 7-11 on 71 in s Austin at s 1st and ben white. When the blk lx 570 is parked by the road I am there stop by sometime. Just a cruiser head looking for someone who understands 😁.

@CJF Not sure, must have been hot. It was 67 outside yesterday. The prognosis is the heat from the engine caused the fuel, which circulates back into the tank, combined with the fuel quality, to allow the fuel temperature to rise and become insufficient for the horsepower requested. If the fuel quantity was greater OR the fuel quality higher, this would not have happened.

Dealer did not test the fuel, but it is their opinion that since the engine was detonating the fuel is to blame.

They basically said my 4,600 hour multi-commercial IFR rated pilot wife who has been to five Jeep Jamborees in her old YJ and also owns a 7spd manual Carrera with 97,000 miles pumped the wrong gas and drives too fast. Car is not built for this scenario.

Personally I’m not buying the bad gas story either - that’s the typical scape goat when a dealer can’t figure anything out. Most dealers can barely change oil proficiently let alone diagnose how the fuel was super heated at light speed and caused a misfire. Blah blah blah 🤪
 
Between Huntsville and the Woodlands the average mph has to be near 100 mph. I was making that drive at over 100 mph in an E class diesel and was passed by a beat to hell Nissan driving on its compact spare.
 
So what do they do in the Middle East where a lot of these end up - with bad gas and 50deg C temp? Most of our desert trucks were diesels though so maybe they're different.

The Middle East is almost all petrol for Land Cruisers or at least it has been. I saw a few 79 series with the new V8 diesel since 2020 but that's a relatively new phenomenon. Never had or heard of any bad gas there either. There's certainly no ethanol to contend with and their petrol is all from regional refineries and based predominately on sweet crude (not that it makes that much difference).
 
Anywhere I have been in the middle east the gas quality is questionable and you pay a premium premium for actual premium if available.

Have had exotics and sometimes discussed on Forums.

Willing to bet their diesel is better though since there is minimal environmental regs.
 
Is it true that the LX 600 is that sensitive to fuel?? I go hunting and sometimes have to use the ranchers fuel, i am just starting to look at them, that’s a deal breaker for me….
 
Your wife is qualified to drive at 100 mph for sustained periods of time?? Nothing worse then drivers like her on the road!!
There are spots in Texas where the speed limit is 85mph, so 10 over is 95mph. There is a toll road stretch between San Antonio and Austin that I would routinely clock 100mph+ easily.

No Sir. Only two road trips since then, once was last weekend when we drove it to Caldwell. She is back to taking her speedy car on road trips to Austin.

Has been through the 5k service, and it had 6,199 miles last weekend.

We named it Roz (Monster's Inc) because the tech is always watching.

IF in the unlikely event anyone from ToyoLex ever reads this, my suggestion is to have the ECU throw a code and not put the car into limp home mode.

Additional observations worth what you paid, which is nothing.

I stripped all the chrome badging off the back of the vehicle. $1,200 for a black trim package and Lexus ships the vehicle with chrome on the back. Likely they did not have a black Lexus emblem that would fit on the ridge of the tailgate, so they punted. Look great with nothing.

She wants a Slee rear bumper as soon as they have one available.

There is a crazy amount of noise from water that the front left tire directs to a support (likely for the running boards) that is comically loud. I need to wrap it with something. Also water on the floorboards, you can feel it. Reminds me of my Defender with its wafer thin aluminum floor. Not a deal killer, just and observation.

Wife likes the comfort setting, and a combination of speed and Houston's third world roads can have you blowing through suspension travel, but she loves the ride. At 90+ I run it in standard.

On the same day she drove her '06 100 with 161k, my 200, and her LX. She noticed at 75+ MPH the road feel and vibration through the steering wheel is apparently on the LX, but not on the other vehicles. It is going to make you hate the car? No. But it when my 200 with 305 width Open Countrys has less vibration, it makes me wonder if they should have installed some sort of a dampener on the steering column.

Even though the LX burped and went into panic mode, I do like the engine. Sound reminds me of a Benz diesel, like a five-cylinder, and that is not a passive stab at high NVH, but it has a pleasant burble. I drove it on the road this weekend to Caldwell and it will keep a pretty rapid pace.

Purchased it through @Luke111 who is an absolutely tip-freaking-top dude. Had it shipped down here from Virginia, cannot say enough good things about him and his dealership. Hope to get up to VA and buy him steak and booze.

Driver's in Texas haul-ass in five gallon orange buckets. You will be steadily passed at anything below eighty, sixty might get you shot.

The judging of my wife's driving ability by Mr. Lou was ironic. She has 94k miles on her 7spd manual trans Carrera 4 that is her primary highway car, and it does more than 100. She is a 5,700 hour pilot with an IFR rating, multi-engine commercial with tailwheel and glider endorsements, had her pilot's license before her driver's license. Sold single engine Cessnas for a few years, ATC called her the Cessna Lady. On our first trip together while dating I was a sixty hour idiot so she flew us down to Study Butte in her aerobatic Bonanza, weeds were so high the prop occasionally made a zing sound. We spent an hour on that flight at 50' (unclassified airspace) because she used to try and make me vomit. Attended seven Jeep Jamborees in her daily driver, an ugly as fok '91 Jeep Wrangler with the Renegade (Tupperware) appearance package. Jesus that was an ugly jeep. UT at sixteen, taught english in China eighteen months after someone stopped a tank in the square. Masters degree, Phd while raising our twins. Before taking off two weekends ago, she noticed the left oil pressure gauge was showing zero. Extremely rare oil pump failure, would have been a seized critical engine at take off.

But she is not qualified to drive at 100.

…..she’s got a 160 IQ, 32 DDDs, a Harvard Law degree, speaks 5 languages fluently, cooks and dresses like a Parisienne cause she is one (and that’s cookin) doesn’t know how to drive but can aspirate the chrome off a trailer hitch….

This is absolute BS and why I seriously dread and hate having anything go wrong with one of my vehicles. Today's vehicles rely on so much technology that trained professionals can't diagnose the problem. An "anomaly"....
