One of my customers is a very experienced car buyer, both at a dealership as well as for his personal collections, the entire collector car market is soft right now, except for the very top tier that have relevance. There have been some outliers, the BaT 77 that went for $110k earlier this year was one.

For the longest time my insurance co was always the cheapest i found on rates. I will be shopping around aggressively now that thats not the case anymore. It was the Hartford. The one thing I always liked was their customer service is excellent and they use real Americans instead of farming out to India. Nothing against Indians but i can never understand the accent.
Anyone recommend an auto insurance company for someone with multiple vehicles (5 total, two full coverage and three are collision only) ?
Have you priced out 'stated value' coverage from Hagerty, et al?

I left Hagerty when my rate went up double compared to 2 yrs earlier… never had any claims. I tried JC Taylor, Grundy and settled on American Collector. All of them quoted stated value. Be sure you are aware of their restrictions like, mileage or type of use.
From what I’ve seen, original paint unmolested 40s have held their values. The hack job “restorations” are definitely down.

There was a Proffitt's built 1978 FJ40 with an LS1/4L60/Orion T-case that was beautiful just the other day on BAT. The 6 page invoice from Proffitt's (from several years ago) wasn't far from $50K and there was a receipt for a truly nice custom interior for $16.6K. I was surprised it hit reserve, because the selling price was only $63K.That being said, there is still a market for high end builds. I think maybe the market has become more savvy about the quality of the builds - Just watching the sales on BAT one sold for $80k so there are still people out there willing to spend the money. Made me feel a little better knowing how much it cost to do my build

I think people willing to spend big money want it built their way, but that's just me. I hit the lotto I'm going to Porsche and Ferrari personally and watch my car being built.
My friend sold his business for good money and went to Bowling Green to take delivery of his new Corvette…watched the assembly line process and got the “birth certificate”, and drove it home… great ending to that story

I've been trying to find a stated value policy that lets me daily drive my 60 and keep it parked on the street since it won't fit in my garage and I don't have a driveway. With your experience testing the waters of all those insurers, do you think any of them would fit the bill?
Yeah. People are generally weak minded and dont know how to sell themselves and add value to their skill set.
Making money is easy. Figuring out how to hang onto it is the hard part.

It seemed to be a capable a rig. It had some of the right parts. Several years ago? Try 14yrs ago and the interior was up graded 10yrs ago with a/c and a stereo. The suspension seemed odd, soa in the frt and 4 link in the rear. The rear suspension looked weirdly tall and the axle looked out of place in the wheel opening. In the video, the rear bounced pretty good coming off a little step. The frame and underneath components had a lot of surface rust for a 14 yr old build from a quality builder. Not my cup of tea.
No one can recommend an insurance company for someone else, other than someone selling their insurance to you. There are simply too many variables at play, including credit score, which has a bigger impact than you might think.
You just have to run the numbers yourself, which is a PITA, but saving money is always a good thing. I laughed a couple of years ago, when I switched my motorcycle insurance from Progressive to USAA. The funny thing is that USAA doesn't insure motorcycles, they have Progressive do the underwriting. USAA was cheaper for my same policy than Progressive, and when I called to cancel my Progressive policy, the gal asked me where I was going, and I told her actually nowhere, I was just keeping more of my money for the same product. She laughed and said she had never seen that happen!
A Rubber City Landcruiser build should always bring premium money! I do think there a lot of buyers with a lot of money that are not FJ40 enthusiasts. They find out quickly that most restored FJ40’s don’t live up to their expectations driving down the road. They really wanted a Lexus ride but want to look cool. I think Our market of buyers may be shrinking compared to 5-8 years ago. Prices as a whole may follow but the nicest example builds and builders will probably still bring a premium price. I’m happy to see some of the unreasonable prices for what really is no more than a parts rig get down where they should be.
