Saw this on eBay this morning. The guy calls it a US spec truck. Wonder if he is misinformed or trying to hoodwink somebody. Wrong dash for an '83. No heater. Front bezel and turn signals scream Bandeirante. The vin is 5TFUW5F19GX534726 which I believe is not correct for a US spec.

I say Costa Rica lipstick job all the way. My2c

That's so problematic, the seller should be flogged! Definitely south American, definitely a Bandierante front end, and the vin number (assuming that is really the VIN, and they didn't just put that in the spot to let the auction happen) pulls up as a Feb 2016 Tundra SR-5. It might have been first titled & registered in 83, but it is not an 83 model. Aftermarket air & no power steering.

If you were thinking of bidding, don't without being aware of the risks. It still looks like a nice truck, so could be a good buy at the right price, but don't bid on it like it is a true US Spec 40, and definitely get the VIN resolved before ever thinking about bidding. Oh, also, no emissions, which I dont' think is a problem in BV, but would make it harder to resell here in CO since the whole front range needs emissions.

83 would have a insert dash. That would be a must for me on a 83. Like mentioned lipstick job from South of the border. Those turn signals were a give away. Once I seen those and that custom bib it would be a pass for me.

Wouldn't touch it with the proverbial ten foot pole! We already have Miss Scarlet. I just check eBay on a daily basis for kicks.

Has the dome light switch in the A pillar so possible part of it is a 82. Interesting it doesn't have a heater but has the side window defrost frost. Besides the bondo someone going to be really angry when they find out it a pieced together mess with the non insert dash that a dead give away to anyone who knows cruisers it's not the rare 83/84 FJ40.

Good catch on the defroster vents. I missed that. I'm thinking about reporting it to eBay but thought the listing should stay up long enough for folks to see it and comment.

Seems like a lot of nastiness along all the sheet metal edges.

As far as I know the VIN will still have FJ40 in it. The seventeen digit VIN was not by Toyota and extra digits added for US market. The frame will still have the shorter VIN which FJ40~ followed by numbers that are really just a serial number.

As previously pointed out, the VIN comes back to a 2016 Tundra. I ran it as well and it is a Florida vehicle.

Pic 21 shows the kind of high quality work that went into this.....

Prob an 82 titled as an 83...
Ad says he has original grill. So maybe swapped it out with whatever he had on hand?
Body is complete doo doo....

Run away...

If that was the last one on the planet I'd buy a Jeep.

...under the category of ‘better the devil you know than the one you don’t’

I think I would consider that too...for exactly the same reason.
