It’s coming together. Unfortunately I found more hardware (spare tire carrier clamp) and one sleeve that we were shorted. Frustrating cause the ladder won’t get powder coated until we get a sleeve shipped to us. The ladder is a pain in the arse. A lot of grinding requires to get things aligned.

Makes me think I’m not buying a kit. I’m not sure I will trust my welding at this point in my life. Yours looks great, however.

Great visit to the barn this past weekend. Huge thanks to Jimmy for taking on my FJ62 H55 swap. This project is more than just a transmission swap. The plans include a new H55, rebuild the transfer case, new suspension, new radiator, new brakes all around, rebuild front and rear axles, including swapping diffs. My FJ62 had 4.88 gears, which were great for the auto transmission, but I needed to go back to stock 4.11 gearing with the H55. The rear axle will have an ARB locker. There are many other smaller projects not listed that will occur while at the barn.

Again, many thanks to Jimmy. And thanks a lot for creating major 12HT envy. Also, great to meet Steve and many other people throughout the day on Saturday. I wish I could recall everyones name.

Great to meet you too Ben. Your truck looks great and you're going to love the manual trans

Was great having you out this last weekend Ben. You have a very nice 62 and definitely throwing some tasteful upgrades at her. The T-case will be done once we get a shim kit. Only able to get just over 1newton meter on the backlash. There’s been two occasions where trans shops (previous owner) have been into this case. And boy did they lay down some cement for gaskets. Never experienced this before. Finally took a soft wire wheel on my drill to remove them. Looking forward to getting the trans in and starting on the rear axle. New (used) 4:11 diff with an ARB along with wheel bearings, seals and new brakes. This is a fun job and appreciate you trusting me with it. Jimmy.

So, are you back in Texas Jimmy?

Hey Luis, Been going back and forth between here and CO. My next professional career move will dictate where I permanently reside. For now I’m spending a majority of my time here in TX. Good to here from you. Jimmy

You should open up your own LC repair & parts shop!! Good to hear from you too Jimmy!

I second this notion. Jimmy’s Cruiser Barn, LLC has a pretty good ring to it.

Ha. That’s actually my plan once I retire. Still have a bit of overhead to cover for a while and need to beef up the retirement portfolio. My plan is to do this as a business but without the pressures of actually making enough Cruiser $ to live comfortably on (will have my retirement $). But with Covid and the downward pressures in landing a job I align with I’m taking on jobs to fill the gap :). Crazy thing is I’m really having fun right now so who knows what I’ll end up doing.

So I learned something today about Napa. They (at least my local one) have the wrong part # in their system for a 90 FJ62 rotor. What they sent was a 11.5” rotor with threaded holes for the wheel studs. Something has changed here because I’ve bought rotors from them for a few other 60’s in the past. I ended up getting them from Oriellys and they are a good match for what I’m replacing. Also hung the bellhousing, flywheel & clutch. Did the RMS and oil pan gasket as well. I’ve done several pan baskets and always followed the FSM applying RTV in the 4 corners. Today I read a few threads and decided to apply RTV in the saddles as well. IMO that was a mistake. Was a mess to work with and started setting up quicker than I work :). Ended up the gasket was not aligned well in the rear. Had to pull the pan down again and manipulate things to make it work. I’ve never had a pan leak so not sure why I tried a new process. With small zip ties I’m able to control the alignment of the gasket. I know there’s several opinions on this but I like how I’ve done it in the past. And done right it should not leak.

I prefer to tie the oil pan gasket up w/ dental floss in four spots, then bring the pan up to it. Both times tho the block has been bone dry when I did them. It’s never made sense to me to attach it to the pan first like the sticky describes.
And man I’ll say it again, wish I was closer! Reading back and seeing the fun times at the barn, such a lucky bunch to be so near to each other.

My engine/trans/tcase install is scheduled for Sunday. I’m more than a little anxious.

Look forward to seeing your progress Felicity. You’ve done some amazing work. Wish you could hang out with us in the barn some time down the road.
