Took it out on the interstate and did the speed limit. She never complained; as usual.

finished plumbing the ac

Finally connected up the ac compressor I put in with the 3FE. Used an old evaporator assembly for an FJ40 I got on ebay, long hoses from the 62, ebay condenser, new receiver/dryer, new expansion valve, custom short hoses, diy brackets to hold the condenser, dryer and relocated horn.

Pulled radiator. Had radiator cleaned and repaired. Have to reinstall by the 23rd

Sent from my iPhone using IH8MUD at 85mph in an FJ40

Put the cruiser in the shed to pull the radiator get it repaired, notch the battery tray so I can run both batteries, repair the radiator support.

Once that's done, I'll get them blasted and powder coated.

Cool! How are you wiring up the whole setup?

The evaporator came with a three speed fan switch similar to what you can get from old air products or others. When you turn it on, it pulls in the compressor clutch, turns the fan on and bumps up idle speed. I wired in the switch and compressor clutch wiring when I built my new harness. It works the same way as an aftermarket under dash unit. I'm not using the Toyota AC amplifier.

Used my 38 year old technology to haul my 10 year old obsolete technology to the recyclers. Ha! I love it! :bounce:

Finally - '60 springs and a wider front axle

Well, it's official, nothing is original on my FJ40 now that the springs have been replaced. Got the FJ60 springs up front last weekend, along with the lengthened 60 axle housing. Got the '60 springs in rear in this weekend and moved the rear axle back. Now for all of the nit-picky stuff.

How does it bump idle speed?
Does it have the brains to cycle compressor clutch on and off? Or off when low vacuum (hard accel) is present?
Thanks, very curious, I'd like to put AC on my 55.

Pulled out my Toyota CB radio and put in a cobra.
Added a PS cooler and swapped from ATF to PS fluid in hopes to fix my steering issues once it gets hot on the trail.

I did that in my 83 fj40 along with synthetic atf and never had a problem again. Now I run syn atf in all my power steering boxes.

Toyota made CBs? Pics?

She got some new "used" bfg mud terrain k/m tires today! One step closer to moving under her own power for the first time in 20+ years!

Fixed cracks in header, installed header and intake, removed single grove crank pulley, removed and resealed timing cover, installed new front main seal, installed 1976 2F harmonic balancer, removed and cleaned up oil pan...slapped on some more khaki paint.

Picked up everything from powdercoaters today... Had just about everything I could done. It turned out great... Still haven't decided if I'm going to keep the black bezel. I like white more, but the black looks great with the JW headlights.

That powdercoating looks awesome. I can't wait to drop my gear off to get done, I just know that I'll forget something...

Me likey that bezel. Being a "black bezel" guy myself, really like the way the powdercoating turned out. The headlights are sexy too... just WAY out of my spending range. Very cool though, looking forward to seeing it all assembled!

Dang, Msahr - that looks awesome. Like it a lot! (Quietly jealous..)

My Tojo has had some serious work done in recent weeks. I'd be cheating by putting it all in for 'this week'. So here's what I can legitimately state: (Note: Aussie 84 FJ45 Troopy)
  • Fixed the stuck odometer - thanks to threads on this site
  • Replaced the lower door catch on the back door
  • New door seals - I hate installing door seals. The end result is testimony that I suck at it too - but less rattles and they work-ish! (win) We all know Tojo seals were really rattle dampeners and did little in the 'seal' department...
  • New kick-vent seals - these, surprisingly, work!
  • 'kill-rust' overhaul of bonnet catches, side mirror brackets and rear number-plate holder/lights
  • New shockies
  • Points, plugs, distributer cap, air filter and high tension leads. Noticed a BIG improvement in engine start/performance doing this. The old Bosch plugs had almost closed up and the old points/dizzie were badly pitted
  • Tune
  • Fixed a few odds and ends - naff stuff, really. Screw, bolt, grommet here and there
  • You know the straps that used to hold the troop seats up with the little twist locks? Oh yeah, they're back....
  • Replaced front stereo speakers
  • Bonnet rubbers
  • NEW GEAR SHIFT KNOB! (I don't mean me! The black thing with the shift pattern written on it ....)
  • Carpet mat in the back
  • Checker plate black rubber mats for the front - cut to fit FJ 40 series.
  • New Toyota badges for back (x2) and front (x1)
  • New 12v fluro light in back
  • Wash/polish
I then lit ceremonial torches and danced naked in the midnight moonlight paying homage to the God Tojo.

(may not have done that last thing....but it crossed my mind....) ;)

Well for the record that's not me, that's jetranger's powdercoated stuff. I'm quietly jealous too...
