Replaced instrument cluster bulbs and dash light bulb with LEDs, put in RoundEyes headlights with 100/55 watts h4 bulbs, IPF headlight harness, new Yokahoma Geolander MT's 33x12 tires, and LEDs for rear brake and reverse lights.
First day busted the TRE at the pitman arm of the Saginaw PS conversion. Fortunately I had a spare along, so it was a quick swap then back on the trail. Also discovered a fuel leak once in camp that was a leaky hose.
Second day had a weird "ringing" noise occur that appeared to be coming from the t-case mounted e-brake. Pulled that apart in camp and discovered that one of the e-brake backing plate bolts had come out (the others were loose) and the "big f*cking nut" that holds the e-brake drum onto the back of the t-case case was loose (not near the torque spec.)
The ringing noise I'd guess was from the e-brake drum moving in and out as it pleased, with that one bolt floating around inside as well! After tightening everything-up there was no more "ringing" noise!
One of the great things about an old Land Cruiser is how simple and stout they are mechanically. They can put-up with a lot of abuse and neglect and still hold-up!!
Went saturday 8-15-2009 to a trail run...left tube fender protection gone...snorkel head gone..lot of fun and get back home after driving 90 miles from that trail run..not bad for a FJ40...

Took the top off finally!!! Now it's supposed to rain Any suggestion on a bikini top supplier that can send one in a half hour? I'm being sent out of town for work for a couple days.
Well I sprayed the new flares and rear 1/4 panels the same colour as the rest of the car. Needed new flares as I had the diff moved back 2", so had to move the flares as well.
Then I went out and got it all muddy on Sunday. Here's the video of that trip.
Here you go Mudmaster, Deja Vu, I did all this already eariler this week I think. Oh well. Finally got them all welded and attached. Real happy with how they turned out. Just a llittle paint and they will be ready to rub up on some trees. I have more pics on my profile if you want to check em out.
I purchased this a while ago from a guy on mud and finally found time to install it.
First I had to remove and install the new side panel. This seemed to be the hardest part for me or I just was just over thinking it. I was worried about abrading the oil feed line to the valve train. Either against the cover it self or the lifter. I did a few test fits without the gasket, and using a thin layer of grease on it to see if they touched. They did so it reshaped the oil line a little and repeated, they still touch. So I use a body hammer to reshape the bump in the cover until it cleared. It didn't take that much, but I felt better about making sure the oil line had clearance all around.
Here's the new dizzy installed and wires. I would like to thank Coolerman for his great web site and all the information on this. It's running, I just need to get it dialed in a little bit better.
during my last trail run i notice that i lost the arb pump, after check all the connections ,decide to check the pump ...guess what i found.... i have the pump in a high position,so my guess for the water inside the motor its when i clean the engine, clean all the components and a friend made a small cover ,i cant seal all the motor cos its need to cool down in somewhere, but now its ready again and i don't have to buy a new pump for $240.00
Fab'd up new rear shock mounts since I've moved the rear axle back a ways. Re-bled the disc brake setup (again.) Did the mudrak dual seal on the t-case, hopefully that stops the leak for good. Now that the cruiser is ready to go I got the insurance going again. Should be going to the DMV next week to get it caughtup out of non-op status
Just need to get the exhaust done and it's ready for DD.....
I spent a few hours earlier in the week removing my front shackles and greasing the pins and greasing my front tie rod ends. This was an attempt to silence a very annoying creaking sound in the front end. It wasn't the cause of the noise, and neither was the steering stabilizer or front shocks, but it does ride noticeably better. It's probably the spring hanger pins and bushings, but that will have to wait. Today I built another shelf in the garage for more junk, and got sawdust all over the cruiser. So it got a quick detail when I was done. If I wasn't on my 3rd beer in the last 2 hours I would probably take it out for a ride.
