spent more hours than I can possibly count cleaning the transmission and transfercase for paint...

I got some parts bought last Thurs. A set of cable locked 60 series axles, and a H55-split case with a 40 series top plate. Now I just need to wait for the container to show up.

Finally got the rear axle re-installed (moving it back to give me a 99" wheel base), after installing disc brakes and opening up the rear wheel-well.

Installed u-bolt flip kit I fabbed out of 1/4" plate steel + mini-truck u-bolt brackets.

Next step: Rust bullet the frame from the front body mounts back, then get the new drive train installed (SM465 + NP203 GRB + LC t-case.)

Put in a gear reduction starter and water pump.

Oh yeah, and gave a victory honk for the Gators!

"I said its great to be a Florida Gator!"

swapped my 3spd for a 4spd, and found out my $100 early 80's 2F probably has a cracked head:bang: at least the head off my other 2F is sound......

Finished my 2.5" lift, got the 33 x 10.50 installed and got the headlights working again. Next weekend getting my instrument cluster working again.

Hi All:

Seth, nice job on the u-bolt flip!

When you did the front shackle reversal, did you move the front axle forward as well?

Regards,

Alan

Alan,
Tks for the props :). The shackle reversal did move the front axle forward several inches. It was a combined effort to stretch the WB. To be honest I wanted to go a couple inches longer, but couldn't do it without really cutting into the rear qtr's.

The past week:
I dropped off the front axle for a C-n-T at a friends shop.
Pulled off the front lift shackles and am waiting for a stock set from Cruiser Outfitters.
Ordered rear disc conversion brackets from Proffitt's.
Ordered my loaded Monte calipers.
Installed my rear lunchbox locker.
Cleaned up my Saginaw conversion and ordered a new bracket for it.

Now if only the man in the brown truck would show up with my parts I'd get more done!

Hi All:

"Matty," congrats mate!

Tell us more about your '40! How do you like those Centipedes on the pavement? :D

Alan

Washed it, put a pretty ribbon on it & drove it to my wedding.

Hi All:

Seth, so what wheelbase does your rig have?

With the front axle move/longer springs I did this winter the wheelbase of my FJ40 is a true 100 inches.

Alan

Thanks Mate, She's a great girl & doesn't get between me & my cruisers.

The 40 is really a bitsa - the body is mostly 78, the engine, gearbox, split transfer case, Pwr Str & complete axle assemblies are from an 84 Troopy I had (great mechanicals but totally the body was rusted out). the half doors are from a 72 & the triple wiper windscreen is from an 82 LX. Front ARB, Rear Lockrite, Body lift etc. I'll start a thread when I've done a bit more.

The tyres are actually Simex Jungle trekkers which aren't quite as aggressive as Centepedes but are a better allround tyre in my opinion. That being said it's an off road rig so I'll be getting a set of bead locked 35" Pedes next up.

Cheers
Matty

Got some Roundeyes headlights put in a couple weeks ago, got my Saginaw pump/bracket in so all I have left is my 70 series TREs, and then wait for the snow to stop flying so I can do my power steering! :bounce:

still have to figure out why I'm getting 16+ volts at highway rpm...

Reinstalled the 11 leaf rear springs for my BJ44 from Alcan. 10 Degrees in the garage and on a cold concrete floor. Glad that's done!

Worked on the steering.
