Reminds me when I was a kid…late 1950’s
The vertical / horizontal roll was a real adjustment on TV sets and I can se my grandfather getting up and slapping the side of the TV to make it stop rolling.

🤣😂 I grew up for the longest time thinking this was just the way TV’s worked. Eventually that little pot on the back just disappeared
I remember discovering that jingling coins in my pocket would emulate the early "remote control" my grandfather had for his TV. This remote had 3 buttons. I could change the channel and it drove my grandfather crazy. :)

I was the remote for my Father. I didn't figure out until years later, he could have bought the TV that had one.

Working on getting the other ambulance door off so I can redo the weatherstripping. Any advice on how to remove the wiring for the license plate lights? Thanks!

I drove Samson to a Men’s group breakfast and then let he and his older brother bask in the early fall sunshine while I played in the shop.

haha nope like a month ago. I shoot a lot of film. I just like the process. Old teq. Very similar in the way that us land cruiser nuts love driving a 50 year old vehicle. (in my case 60 years old) Film does convey a nostalgic look for sure. I certainly struggle with the cost of film and going to a fully digital work flow. But I have yet to find a digital camera that I feel captures the same feel as a film photograph. The other side is the cameras from yesteryear are fantasticly built machines to last that are almost romantic in a sense. Again very much like the fj40. simple machines that just work. I know the day is coming where I cant afford the cost of film and I think as an artist thats hard for me. anyways I could go on for hours on this. I am going to try a fujifilm gfx 50r and see if thats a good digital substatute. (i have a hasselblad 907x but I am not liking it really)

Some other film Fj40 shots for you all.

Love the look of these photos. I was combat camera in the US Army 1980-2000. I developed and printed hundreds of photos. Still missing that.

Not really tech related, but here goes: We’re up in Detroit visiting our son and today we attended a car show at the Packard Proving Grounds. For anyone not familiar, the Proving Grounds began in approximately 1928, and among other things had a 2-1/2 mile oval track. During World War II, the facilities were used for testing tanks. They have a very cool museum with an impressive selection of restored vehicles.

I swore up and down I wasn’t going to use these sliding side windows. They really took the brunt of the weather when this thing was stored behind the helibase. Crusted with dirt, two layers of gawd awful purple tint; ugly as sin.

Was looking at a couple different options but I always came back to how nice it was to be able to slide them open in the summer to get some air flow. SOR says they have them for sale but a quick search didn’t show them on their website, just the 60 ones. There was a pair for sale in Texas a couple years ago but they wanted $800 for them, which I thought was pretty extreme. So I got up this morning and started cleaning them up. Once the tint was off they started looking presentable and 6 hours later I had them installed.

They still look like trailer windows but at least they aren’t purple.

On a different note, I was looking at a thread by a guy that had built a really nice 40 buggy. It was light blue with a copper colored bezel and the best looking side stripe I have seen on an FJ40. Very retro looking. Anyway, I can’t find it for the life of me and I wanted to ask him where he got it.
I need something to break up the many shades of beige I have going on. I told my wife I was going to name it ‘50 shades of beige’. She didn’t get it.

If you're asking about the stripes on my 40 they're just painted on. I masked them out freehand then spray bombed them on. The toyota script on the hardtop sides is a copy of the "toyota" emblem on the apron.

Pick your colors, buy some masking tape and stripe away man!

What a cool build. Headed to read that one.

Seems like maybe I’ve seen it before but want to again.
