did some blacksmithing at my sister-in-laws property. Took the 40 out, it’s running pretty good.

Sometimes the line between blacksmith and cruiserhead gets blurred. Although these parts were for my other rig.

The original oil pan on my 2F finally rusted through despite having been brazed up on the inside once before. Rust gets between the skid plate and the bottom of the pan and has it's way with the metal. There's really no solution that I know of other than to drill out the spot welds, remove the plate, patch the pan and weld it back together.

I chose to set the old pan aside and use a spare. Unfortunately the spare had been beat on pretty badly in the past probably to clear a different front driveshaft/axle/t-case combo. Turned out both rear corners were cracked from the abuse. Got the cracks welded up.

My pan rusted that way. A local Land Cruiser shop gave me a pan, but I had to pull it off the motor, laying in a pile of old motors and other scrap. He didn’t mention it still had oil in it. It took a couple hours to clean up the mess when I knocked it loose.

This past week has been all about wiring for me. When I towed the Cruiser home in July it had a burned up wiring harness, nothing electrical worked in it. For the short term I wired up two fused circuits for the coil and starter so I could get the engine running and be able to move the vehicle around. This past week was spent building a new harness. Being retired with lots of time on my hands I built it from scratch. I'm now down to just a few more circuits and a little more soldering as I'm not a fan of crimp connectors. Mrs. King took the pix .

@mattolewis that is a beautiful job well done and I hope you never need it…but for me at 71, it’s a jungle gym I would have trouble navigating

You most likely have seen some drivers in positions that defy good visibility like the nearly reclined seats of some of the “buzz bomb” Hondas I have seen around here. I need my seats to be high and upright so I can see easily over the hood. Whether or not it is foam compression or something else, this got resolved easily by raising the rear mounts on my FJ40.

Cut 2 of theses blocks of 1 1/4” square tubing and drilled the appropriate sized M12 holes. this worked perfectly and does not crunch your stomach into the steering wheel.

40 series put in some highway miles from Atlanta to Old Buzzards Roost trail in NC.
Makes you appreciate some highways more than others.
Good times!

@DylanH239 how’d it go at the car show? And…what did you use to replace the vacuum lines?

The car show went great I didn’t win anything but got to drive the 40 about 75 miles round trip. Farthest I’ve driven it and it did well also got to see a 79 FJ40 that had been restored…as far as the vacuum hoses I used Toyota part #90999-92003 (12 bags) &
90999-92004 (1bag)

@DylanH239 thanks for the part numbers…

i haven't been to any car shows yet and there are always a few around here, plus, local cruise nights. The best for me so far is stopping for gas. It never fails to spark a conversation and takes a few minutes before you can politely hop in and drive off

I’ve only seen 2 other FJ40 in my area both restored so no local cruiser clubs unfortunately (that I know of). Funny that you say that pretty much whenever I take “Larry the Landcruiser”out (mostly weekends) people always spark up a conversation about how they had one when they were my age (23). It’s always cool to hear about when these were common to see on the road or on a trail.

Well we lead parallel lives…my first Land Cruiser was when I was 21…that was 50 YEARS AGO! 😂

@78crzr Great looking 40….another of my favorite colors. I no longer get out of New Jersey much but a few yrs ago drove from Dallas to Waco… the straightest road I have ever driven.
