This weekend was great fun I would say.

Started my Long journey to get her road ready

Started my getting her to fire up after sitting for a long long time.

Started with an oil and fiilter change with the zddp additive. Turned the engine to make sure oil could get to the top and lube up the parts to avoid any damage.

Went ahead and pulled all the spark plugs (been in there a hot minute where all fouled) and replaced with new ones.

Cleaned up the wires a bit and drained and added fresh gas. And new filter. Bought a fresh battery while I was at it

Put the key in and fired her up. She ran decently well but noticed some valve adjusting would need to be done (later date)
Also noticed that the radiator began to leak out of the top after getting up in the temp. Will have to order a new one.

Put a pin in that and Moved on to the breaks with a fresh rebuild. Noticed the rear resivoir slowly draining out over time so pulled it.

Some leaking on the back tonthe break booster. Pulled the front of the booster off (big mistake as it was a pain to get back on) and found nothing wrong with it only exterior rust so I sanded it off and removed rust from the bolts and nuts and gave it some fresh lube.

Got the new master cylinder in and went ahead and put it on but realized I couldn't get the old warning break switches off but they were not in use so I ordered some plugs for it (british pipe thread?) Was hard to find. Anyways waiting on it to come in so put a pin in that

The system has a holly carb on it with a KN intake the filter was terrible so I went and got a cotton one that will fit the intake. Looks a little better.

The hose leading from the intake and the valve cover was weird and didn't fit right so I got a random one from the parts store and cut it down to fit a little better

When I was done with that I started playing with he clutch and figured that the slave cylinder must be bad either that or the master or both idk. Ordered a slave for now waiting on it to come in so I can test a bit more.

Towards the end of the weekend I got bored and started trying to see if there was any ready my gauges on the cluster wasn't working so I pulled it and it's good however found a LOT of weird wiring along with a melted wire on the harness so that's fun.

All in all it's a long road ahead but she's coming along. Slowly but surely. I'm on a bit of a budget and dont know much of what im doing but she will get there.

These are the 5125s for lifted FJ40s. Hope they are worth the pretty pennies I spent. Gone are the days of $25 shocks!

Is the leak on the seam where the top tank is soldered to the core?
That's a very common leak. Any good (old) radiator shop can fix that. Maybe have the radiator rodded out at the same time.

I do like seeing the old school Holley on there, that plus a Downey header was a big upgrade in the 70's!

I do like seeing the old school Holley on there, that plus a Downey header was a big upgrade in the 70's!

Yeah I'm not sure when the carb went on as she's been past down about 3 generations now but it seems to function well. Altho it idles a bit fast I'm not very carb knowledgeable so I'll have to fiddle with it a bit

Timely post as I just ordered a ToyotaMatt reproduction fuse block this afternoon.

Transmission / transfer case installed. Filled transmission with Evaporust due to previous owner leaving trans outside resulting in water intrusion and rust. Hopefully I can salvage the transmission. I’ll drain and refill with gear oil. New motor mounts installed

I have a decent used radiator that I would donate to your cause if you pay the shipping. I pulled it from my 40 when I upgraded to a new 4 row when I did the Mosley motor rebuild and would like it out of my garage. PM me if interested.

the Traditional HOOK too , these are the smaller size spec. TOOL ROLL , JACK , and JACK RODS Wheel Well and under seat mounting Rubber Band Assy's ....

Made steady progress on replacing the rear sill and rear quarter panels. Lots of time working to make sure everything fit *just* right, and it's been worth it.

Once I finish the last bit of welding on the quarters and where they meet the sill, I'll clean that all up, and move on to the last bits of prepping the interior for prime and paint!

Had a couples days off so made a quick trip to Colorado to escape the triple digit heat. Found an excuse to lock the hubs looking for a campsite and did some tailings pile rockhounding at a couple sites

Left the landcruiser behind and headed to Telluride on two wheels via Ophir pass, and returned via Black Bear pass

Fired up my 30yr old HF sand blaster to cleanup the bezel and removed two coats of rubberized undercoat and one coat of flat black paint. Plug welded two license plate holes. Now to cleanup and paint.

You must live at elevation or your lungs are very very strong! I remember my first trip to Breckenridge, CO from living in Washington State, I entered a boot pack hike line from a chair lift. It was one step after the other up the "hill" and I was in between hikers and didn't want to impeded anyone. I can't recall the hike distance, it wasn't much, but I nearly passed out at the top due to the limited oxygen available at altitude. It took me nearly an hour to recover and feel normal again!

I pack in bow hunting for elk in Idaho and Montana. I am not in great shape but I’ve ran across guys that were bragging about running marathons and stuff sucking wind and having bad altitude sickness. Elevation is a killer if you aren’t prepared.

I'm at 4000', but it's still a big jump. I camped halfway up black bear which helped, but definitely pushed the bike uphill a lot of the time at higher elevations. Of course I was also lacking other important things like skill and fitness, on top of the no oxygen part
