I'd run dual relays regardless. It helps a ton for both brightness and safety, I'd think.

A few years back I drove my '70 to Buffalo, NY. It ONLY cost $740.00 for fuel one way and steadied the tach around 4000 rpm at 55 mph with those 4:11's. I guess I will never forget that number. And that was in the days of cheap gas! I could have walked it almost as fast (and saved a bundle). I was running the 700x15's. 39's would have helped a lot on that ride!

Drove up to Maryland and back. About 200 miles. No issues. Still for sale.

I severely crashed my '74 about 5 years back. So bad I could only part it. Bent middle of frame bad. Went airborne off a river bank at (45 mph?) and landed it square on a Boulder half the size of the vehicle. Quickest stop it ever made! It was destroyed. 😒

Did you have to upgrade the relay or works with existing relay?
I added these on my 40 last month. I replaced some hummer 24v headlights the PO installed that used a 12v to 24v converter. It was a very easy installation and the difference in light is remarkable. The low beams are brighter and wider than I got out of the high beams before. The high beams now are unreal. This was by far the best upgrade I have made to the 40. For $130 it was money well spent. You will be amazed at the light. I didn't add relays but probably not a bad idea if you feel they are needed.

I had the pleasure of getting my 40 out on the road for a 7 hour round trip drive on Sunday. This is the farthest I have taken it since I purchased it. 2 hours into the drive it vapor locked and died. I let it cool off and drove the rest of the way without issue. I rerouted the fuel lines in the engine bay on arrival for the feed and return to the sniper. Drove it 3 hours back and it vapor locked again but this time I pulled into a gas station and topped off with fresh cool fuel and the lines were not hot so I was stumped. After topping off it drove home fine. My tank has been building pressure so I know it is turning to vapor which is odd for fuel injection at 60psi. So I crawled under it today and found the issue. The PO installed a nice 22 gallon stainless tank but the exhaust pipe is touching it on one side. The pipe gets very hot in that area so I assume when I slow down and air stops moving by the pipe the tank gets hot enough to start boiling vapors at that hot spot. I moved the tank over an inch today and will get the exhaust moved 3 or 4 inches next week. I will also install a vent and run it to vacuum from the tank. If I still have issues then I will upgrade to an in tank fuel pump. Other wise it ran 75 to 80mph with no issues..

It was a trip that kind of sucked because I had issues but at the same time I found a potentially hazardous issue that I can now easily resolve and make the 40 so much more reliable. All in all I love being back in a 40. Sometimes I miss my built 80 but then I go for a drive in the 40 and those thoughts go away.

Just wrapped up the first batch of another brain child of mine I have been yearning like nobody’s business to pull off or simply Have some spare time to tinker with too

Installed a new Toyota battery!

I used the exact same battery in mine, nice! As for what I did this week, like a lot of you, I took it on the longest drive so far for Christmas last Sunday. Drove to Gatesville, about 180 miles one way. 30 minutes in it developed a strange oscillating vibration, I figured it was coming from the drive shaft. I pulled over and everything seemed normal, so I kept going. By the end of the trip it had just fixed itself :). I swear my FJ40 is a lot like the movie car Christine... the more I drive it, the better it gets!

Installed newly refurbished 4 speed transmission hump cover. What a wrestling match to get the cover installed. The welding fixes changed the shape making it challenging to install. For anyone wanting to upgrade from a j30 to H42, I highly recommend it.

Also installed new fuel filter with OEM bracket, changed oil and installed OEM hand brake firewall floor grommet and hold down bracket.
