Getting the cap ready to paint. The side of the gutter had been badly mangled from roof racks (i'm guessing), so i ended up cutting the edge off and re-welding it. the fiberglass was in pretty good shape with only a little touch up needed. i was fortunate in that a friend had this rivet tool - what a difference that made! even a hack like myself could get some decent looking rivets.
because the lip was pretty thin and i didn't want to redo all the fiberglass, i used seam sealer between the gutter and the cap to offer better support and take up some of the slack between the two surfaces. i made a frame/ jig to brace the gutter and then laid the cap on top of it. the fiberglass wasn't completely flat and my fear was it would distort the gutter when it was tightly riveted together - so i let it float a little on the sealer. the rivets were placed bottom up to the height discrepancies wouldn't be seen from below.

It seems that a new "thing to see"/attraction is added in Northern California!

Took one hell of an uninsured joy ride around the neighborhood and pulled the 40 back into the garage. It had sat outside for a couple of weeks while I put a new trans*, clutch, and flywheel in the :princess:'s Heep. Did a bunch of light restoration work on the undercarriage while I was under there. Daytime temps outside topped out at 110 on several occasions so some days a couple of hours in that sweatbox of a black widow cave was all I could manage. Really looking forward to Fall and cool enough weather to put the Cruiser back in as my daily driver.

EDIT: Forgot to add that the trans was a brand new Aisin AX15. Now the Jeep has a little Japanese DNA.

To the Montana crew: Pray for me. Someday I'll get to move back.🥵

I’d like to get my hands on the schematic to convert an oil pressure gauge into a voltmeter. I have an aftermarket voltmeter, but having a stock looking gauge would be great. The stock ammeter can’t handle the 120 amp alternator I’m running.

Here you go. The voltage divider resistors can be different values to get close to 0.75, I just used what I had on hand. I could make up some of these if people are interested. I've been running this for a couple years without any issues.

Continuing on my cap project, here are the drip rails after primer. I wish I took more pictures of the process - it was pretty messy and an unpleasant experience. Far from perfect, better than it was, but I'm happy with the result.

i know it's a very subjective topic but in lieu of a head liner i decided to spray in some armour liner (similar to raptor, etc). this was my first experience so wasn't sure what to expect. in hindsight, i would have prepped some of the seams with filler as they are still visible in areas. i sprayed it in with a schutz type gun at approx 60-70psi and put down probably 3 quarts unmixed liner... probably close to a gallon after adding activator and color (the color could be off due to the interior lighting - supposed to be cygnus white). it's hard to discern from the pictures but i'd say it was a medium to small texture. if nothing else it's another example of what to do or not to do.

I also added the diode and ran the L terminal on the alternator to the brake light, like on the 82+ FJ40s. The light will ghost in at idle, that can be fixed with an alternator relay.
