I welcomed her to her new home. My first 40 not my first classic or land cruiser. I'm sure I'll be leaning on all the gurus in here sooner rather than later. She's a 66 FST that's currently not running but seems to have all the stuff I can't get easily or at all.

Swapped my rear springs side to side last weekend to see if it would address my cruiser lean. Previously, the truck had leaned 1.25” to the passenger side. Moving the heavier “+” spring to the passenger side, and the softer “-“ spring to the driver’s side did a great job of correcting the lean. I now only have about 1/4” of lean (still to passenger).

Way more level now... 90% of cruisers in the US lean driver, and need the heavier spring on that side...leave it to the Clustertruck to once again, buck the trend.

I also ratchet strapped my front shackle forward and put the weight of the truck back on it. It’s still way too vertical for my taste but it’s pointed slightly in the right direction:

It still has a propensity to go negative a bit in parking lots:

I’m going to give it a few more months to break in and see if it heads in the right direction. I know OME has a great reputation for quality, and this is a heavy spring on a truck with a (lighter) V8 and no additional weight over the front axle beyond a bull bar that isn’t super heavy - so it may just be a little over-sprung for the weight.

Also discovered today that I took a pretty serious hit to the front differential. Anyone have any cleaver recommendations for protecting the front face of the dif and the drain plug? I know there are purpose built “masks” for some other cruiser axles but I’m not sure I’ve seen anything purpose built for a 40.

Not sure if you have a solution yet, but I reached out to the moto farkles store owner and he said that he has more cut and will be bending and selling them soon.

Yep I actually started a thread on this, and spoke with Roma about that setup. I definitely like it, though I think I’d need to find a way to build it up around the drain plug a bit. The face plate is perfect.

I’d probably have to find a welder I trust more than myself to burn it into place - I’d probably find a way to potato chip the whole axle housing.

I try to warm this thing up at least once a week. Coming back from a warm up / test drive after rotating the tires, I caught the sunset reflecting intensely off the peaks behind the house. Maybe icey up there, these fence posts should be half buried in snow this time of year.

Contact John Merkey in PA and see if he is still selling his weld on crazy Heavy Duty drain plug collar. His son is

Surprised I was able to get it freed up. It was seriously corroded and seized.

Also surprised I got the studs out, thought for sure I was going to have to drill and tap.

Last week I cleaned up the gauge cluster which I posted already. Today I was so excited to hear that ups dropped off a package from SOR.
It was my speedometer cable. Hooked it up and now after five years I have a speedometer. I took it out for a test drive and went from a dead stop to slow in 45 seconds 🤪.

Painted the exhaust manifold with some high temp cast iron grey, should look alright when bolted back to the aluminum intake manifold and back on the head. 🤷🏼‍♂️
