These trucks are ridiculously easy to break into and steal - really just about anything you do is just keeping honest thieves honest.

A Kryptonite lock keeps honest theives honest. More of a visual deterrent... but it would be a PITA to get past

At the time it had a Desert Camo paint job and turning on my signal in Arizona traffic was a lot like Moses raising his Staff... traffic would part and I could drive to safety

Picked up a very decent '71 FJ40 body tub in Lincoln, CA and drove it back to my place in Nevada in the back of a 12' Budget rental truck. Had a lot of rain on the way back south on CA 99. Sunday morning we left Delano to take the shortcut on CA 155 to Lake Isabella and had to turn around due to snow and ice. Backtracked to Bakersfield and by the time we got ready to try it again on CA 178 Caltrans updated the road conditions over Walker Pass. So we headed back to CA 58 for a try over Tehachapi Pass. We followed a semi tractor towing two other tractors, so all those wheels ahead of us cleared out all the freezing slush pretty well. The westbound lanes were all blocked at Keene due to a pickup towing a big camping trailer sliding into the center concrete barrier and basically jackknifing. We made it over OK, just in time. But we weren't done with the snow yet. I-15 between Barstow and Las Vegas was getting very slick with freezing slush and snow at Halloran Summit. And when we hit Las Vegas it was a pretty intense blizzard.
I was able to unload the tub by myself Monday morning and started to clean it up a bit. It's in really good shape, and significantly better than the tub on my '71 FJ40. It should be much less expensive and will save me a lot of time with the build. Still shooting to finish before Solid Axle Summit #3 this August.

Me too. One of the many advantages of not living in or near a big city.
A hidden kill switch works quite well. If they try to steal it they will have to push it, and that ain't easy.

I believe the intention was to steal the kick vent, not the 40. Some jeep jp owner now has a kick vent installed in their jp. It's a jp thing. I have a friend who wants a set of 40 hood louvers, so he can install them in his yj.
I know guys who have never locked theirs and don’t even have a door key in my area. I sleep better with it locked, fuel off, and a kill switch. Insurance is garbage here and wouldn’t give me squat.

The column is out of 89 chevy truck, so far the painless is quite impressive it was relatively easy I have maybe 3 or 4 extra ign B+ wires left within the harness in case I want to add more items. The Dakota is pretty nice and simple to wire up, I'm currently waiting on the tang adapter for the speedometer (mine was left out of the packaging). While I'm waiting going make a bypass hose for transmission to transfer case and clean them up.

I’ve heard an old school chalkboard eraser is an excellent way to keep the condensation down from the inside of the windshield.

I didn’t do squat to the 40 today, other than bringing this in off the front porch (appreciating that no stinking drug addict beat me to it) . Awl_TEQ rear sill. Nice piece of work and shipping half the cost of coming from the states. Go figure. I hope I don’t screw it up.

After many months of waiting for specific opportunities I was able to get our (daughter’s?) 72 out of the weather and under cover again.
I put it in my cattywompass polebarn with other cruiser parts including a useable ‘69 F engine. We will likely swap that into the 72 to get it driveable.
I already converted the front axle to discs with 60 stuff.
Then I need to buy a decent little mig and start replacing some body panels.

Make sure the intake and exhaust are taped closed to keep as much crap out of that engine as you can.
I’m sure you don’t want mud daubers or mice trying to make a mess out of the manifolds.
