Installed back up light switch. I had the switch but not the bracket. Mark (from Mark’s Offroad) had one and got it to me super quick. Thanks Mark! All lights now operational except brake lights—have switch coming in the mail shortly so I will get that sorted out as well.

Today! Today is the day that all the hard work showed itself. The cruiser is far from pretty, but it does it’s job. My first carb rebuild(quadrajet) paid off in spades. The nose pointed to the sky and bouncing. Never stumbled, never hiccuped. The temps were a touch high(210), but never went above the mark. The FJ80 steering was spot-on, tires went wherever ever I pointed them. I did have some light rubbing in back, but not to bad. Finally installed the aqualu dog house, needs a little more modding to allow for low range. Low gear on the SM465 did its job, with some help from the skinny pedal.
I’d like to thank everyone who posts on this site, you’ve all helped me get to this point.

Picked up a good used fender off Craigslist to replace the one that is full of filler. Working to fine tune the panel fit a bit prior to disassembling for media blast soon, probably next week.

Other parts dribbling in from here and there as well. Trying to decide if I should try to hire out the welding I need (outer rockers, a couple patches in the floorpans, and 120 holes to weld up!), or bite the bullet and buy a MIG for myself.

Gentlemen & Ladies,

I'm venturing over from the dark side of the 60-Series to your forum, its a scary place but I am asking for your help! I don't want to bog the front page down with another thread about "What's this worth" so I'm doing it in here!

I've always like the 40-Series and strongly considered one before I got into 60s.... Well, now I have had some 60's and daily drive one I think a 40 to cruise(r) around town topless would be fun!

Here's where the "What's it worth?" comes in.... Locally (ish) I have a line on a 1978 that is (1) owner and has been on a farm (on the edge of the rust belt) it's whole life. And it's rough. But it only has 33K miles! I'm not afraid of a project but how gone is too gone and how much is too much?

It runs, does not drive or stop. I was thinking $3000 to $3500 based on the market and mileage.

Do you guys think that's about right? Too much? Too little?

For what it's worth, I have not yet seen it in person, seller claims the frame is solid but I will find out soon enough. If he is free I will go see it this weekend.

Am I crazy?

Thanks 40-guys!

For those interested this is still available. The seller and I could not come to a price we both agreed on. It's rough but could be saved with a lot of love. He is asking $6500 for it. If you are interested PM me and I can get you in touch with him.

It's located in Southern Indiana

Thanks for the advice!

Sounds like he thinks too much of it.

The PO added the typical diamond plate cover-ups to hide the rusted out quarters. They also fabbed one to cover up the outside of the sill. The problem is by mounting the tire carrier and catch back over the top of those, combined with a new bolt on tailgate, it left an 1/8-1/4" gap at the top and bottom.

The adjustable stop at the top had been replaced by a flat head phillips screw that couldn't reach. With the 33x10 tire mounted it rattled like hell on anything other than silky smooth pavement. So last time I was at the hardware store, I bought a piece of metric all thread, a nut, and a solid rubber stopper. I drilled the stopper about half way, threaded in the stud, adjusted to fit snug, and then tightened the retaining nut. All that's left is to find a piece of rubber the right thickness to make up the gap at the bottom! Sooooo much quieter.

I also added some cheap insurance with a hitch pin at the bottom. Lol...looks like I need to find another bolt too.

Working on brake lights and blower. I would like to formally than my PO for the veritable hornet’s nest in the blower vent system. What’s up with that??!!!
