Thanks! Yeah he sure loved helping me out. Really puts life into perspective...this rig belonged to my late brother. He passed it onto me when he passed. So enjoying it with my son is awesome. One day maybe I'll pass it on to him. If he can get me to quit driving it that is

Have been having wandering issues with my BJ4 replaced the rag joint, rotated all the tyres (yes we spell it this way!!& also use the metric system, bite me) had a full front end alignment so after the steering box hope that fixes it, if not will be walking down the same path.
Actually did'nt even think of worn axel stubs or shims. (Still a Nooob) Cheers for the post.

No probs, mate. I got there eventually after lots of messing around trying different things to improve the way it drove. I (incorrectly) thought all 40's handled like a yacht ... The new stubs and caster shims have made a big difference in the way it now tracks down the road without wanting to dart off in no particular direction if I run over a match or look away for a split second. It even wants to self-centre now coming off lock!

Tearing Into my 73. Doing a refresh, deep clean, paint job, and powder coating everything... Talk about elbow grease...

Also rolled the 64 chassis outside to make room for the 73...

Getting the clip on this bugger is a PIA. Finally finagled it on with some needle nose pliers, feared dropping inside the ambulance door the entire time.

I order up some new license plate lights and covers. Hard to believe toyota still makes these parts OEM. The old ones were wore out and rusted like crazy.

Put on a new Toyota OEM spring and cushion for my spare tire rack handle.

Did some soldering on a broken ignition harness wire, isn't the prettiest thing, hopefully it holds, good thing it covers.

Mine looked lonely yesterday out in the back garage.
The temp was above 30 for the first time in quite awhile so I started it and let it run for a while.
Started right up and I gave it a mouse inspection. Found a towel that was chewed a little but all looked good.
No leaks or anything so turned it off for at least 1 month more till the snow is gone.

@Vossie you are correct sir. The cable housing was starting to deteriorate so I cut it off at the end of the stem. All I needed was something to fill the hole in the dash anyway.

Today : Finally Landed The Source for the paint I've mentally become set upon painting my dear-to-me, '79 FJ40. A very masculine, rugged, out-back out-doors type look.

I now have a specific paint code & formula for the paint, which is a DuPont coating from their Imron Elite line. (At basically $400/gallon, very expensive, for sure !!) And today, during an on-site visit to a distributor company's warehouse-store (an industrial coatings supplier, who distributes DuPont / Axalta coatings), the guru behind the counter easily located the color within his company's DuPont database.

The color is formally called, 'Gray Black.'

I'm exited by the olive-drab looking color as it changes in hue from a dark greenish-gray to an almost copper-bronze. It becomes a bronzish-tan somewhere in between. And at times, it definitely looks taupe. The DuPont coating was used on a repaint project, conducted by Bell Helicopters, for latter Vietnam era Cobra 826. It was here that I was introduced to this specific color, a few years back, and have since known deeply within myself it no doubt would look FANTASTIC on the '40 (with its Cygnus White rooftop & front bezel).

Regarding the chosen DuPont 'Gray Black' : the DuPont Imron coating is said to be highly UV stable; but if it fades some... well... So What !!!... will only look better & better

Imron is the usual brand of paint for semi trucks here in the US. A very durable product. I had my 78' painted with an Imron product.
