replaced steering rack and saw a leak in my CV...torn right by the pfran clamp. ordering a new axle and replacing the entire thing. still deciding what clamps to do for the new axle

If you went oem, they come booted and greased from the factory. Just leave it as is and throw it on the truck. Proper clamps to fit the boots, factory tolerances, correct width, etc. Why mess with a good thing?

Also check your hub flange. If it’s worn, you probably don’t want to mate your new axle to it. Have the old ones machined in case you ever have front end trouble.

I would add to what slow build said in that you should, IMHO, always replace the hub flange when installing a new outer CV/axle.

OEM are the best clamps.

Today, my Toyota “look-alike” Imperial Jade Mica spray paint arrived. I covered up the Rust-Oleuom Rust Reformer I had sprayed over the tailgate rust. The green, at least initially, actually does seem to match the car. In any case, it’s on the bottom of the tailgate, so not often visible.

I also received the exterior plastic handle for the liftgate and installed it. It’s much smaller than I expected. It’s so nice to open the liftgate now.

My new front sway bar links arrived today as well. Haven’t installed them yet. Probably will take it to the mechanic, although I’m feeling maybe it is something I will try to tackle.

Worked late last night in the shop, installing a Lexus GX470 engine in The Unicorn (07 factory no NAV LC VX). Scored a 2007 Unicorn. The holy grail of 100 series.

wait wait wait.

Easy? my D light has been out for YEARS, but the previous owner said he'd gotten a quote of some inane amount.

Do you have a thread about how you replaced it?

Oh, I didn't replace the bulb at all and I will never fix it. The fact it burned out IS awesome! Hate having the glaring green light shine in my face at night. Much prefer it stay disabled. If you really want to replace it, there is a write-up in the FAQ.

Every time I see this hvac and radio setup I think to myself, self, how did Toyota ever think that intergrated HVAC and a tape deck was what people wanted after 2002. Makes no sense.

I KNOW RIGHT! But that's what makes a post 02 Unicorn.

It's what I liked about my 01LC The king, no nav that is! Personally it's the stand alone HVAC control, that's appealing to me. Most, find the ease of swapping in a modern NAV/AV more appealing.

This, 07 Land Cruiser was lacking in many option nearly all US imported had, my dream rig RIGHT!
I'd been pining for a Unicorn, but a 07 no option SWEET ;)
No Factory NAV, DVD player or spoiler.

To my good fortune, it looked like this in the tech stream.
Big project:cool:

Well it's definitely in the right hands. Best of luck with the refurb.

a little lighting while I had the windshield out, and then more lighting.
one remote PWM dimmer and one on a knob, rear usb no dimmer so I could see if my usb was right side up to plug it in. I admit that is a waste of time, but I had extra lights. It's so cheap to buy these things I just went overboard.
I got a look at the stock lexus lights in the upper console. I can't see how those do anything at all. I was surprised how dim they were, even at full brightness on the dash rheostat.

I really like what you did there! Need to replace my AC control lighting on my 98 LX as it's super dim. Where did you source your replacement illumination?

the green is a new board, so they were all new. (NIB around 2009) those little pink and black bases.
someone here knows, I don't for sure.

Had an alignment done after my lift was installed/front end was tweaked, did a quick wash just in time for the rain, and will be reclamping the CV boots tomorrow after work as they're starting to leak a little.

Plus, am looking into different colors for the wheels, thinking a bit darker with the same gunmetal finish?
