What hard parts would you like to see available for 80s?

We might also like to see your workshop. Water jets and CNC machines are boatloads of fun.

Another vote for a 3-FE York compressor mount

A huge vote for solving the seat issue, since we ALL want an armrest and most of our 2-300K mile chairs are toast. My vote would be for the Land Rover Disco seats, cheap and readily available in great condition with armrests. This would mean an adapter for the seat to the base, and either making the recline controls mechanical or making a switch plate (power seat adjust is on the center console). Other seat options would be FJ Cruiser, Sequoia, Minivan captains chairs, Trooper, and Montero. Downside is most of those seats are in the same condition as the ones we have.
Now we're talking. You later mentioned an adapter for one mutually agreed upon seat. I say make an adapter with 3 sets of holes for the 3 most feasible seats.

One of the biggest gripes is the center console. I'd like to see it a little higher to serve as a more ergonomic arm rest. It should be more functional and I'll only say this once, include a pair of cupholders in the console design.

Seems as though this is a gaping hole of need! I have experience with the FZJs so I am looking up the 3FE diagrams. I guess I need to educate myself on this one.

If you were closer I'd let you use my 3FE as the guinea pig...

This sounds good to me. I'm getting ever closer to having to do another rebuild. Since it costs north of $700 I could easily divert that to a different SC and plenum.

Would need a throttle body adapter too

  1. X9 on the bracket for a larger alternator (3FE motor).
  2. Simple bolt-on armor under stock rear bumper wings (not as interested in the larger bolt-on replacement "wings" due to cost but something to sit underneath the existing wings while adding some protection).
  3. A "ready to be welded to a rear cross-member" swing out tire carrier similar to this (once it's done).
Thx for inquiring; any progress as to actually picking something from within these suggestions to actually tackle?

I don't want to hijack this thread but I will share what I (and by I, I mean my 13 year old son) did for grab handles. I had banged my head (much like others on here) and so he suggested something different, paracord handles. He made this one tonight. (the two strings hanging were left until we knew the length was good, they have been trimmed and melted). Some trimming of the D Rings left to do tomorrow. I'm having him make them for all 10 handles in my 80.

How about a simple one. A panel to replace the rear door ashtray with a USB/cigarette light plug. Something like this (stolen from another thread). I think you could fit two holes, one for the USB and one for the lighter plug.

A bracket or two (whatever is required) to adapt a commonly available under the dash pull type parking brake lever, and a plate to cover up the old hole from the old floor mounted lever.

Someone may be working on two versions on exactly that :hhmm:

Looks like you are over-complicating things again. A flat plate with a couple holes, maybe some double stick tape and I'm good. I almost knocked it out last weekend but the kids said they wanted to go to the park which seemed like a better use of my time.

Yup, except I will be doing something very different with it.
