Hmm, had no idea this was even an issue. Interesting.
After I lifted my 80 8 inches (6" suspension, 2" tires) they got a lot more of a workout.
Ha no I'm 6'1". After I broke the handle I started doing thw hop more too. I would like to actually be able to use the grab handle though. The hop doesn't really work when you have to get in when in a difficult spot on the trail. You can always pull on the steering wheel but I was worried about damaging the column.I just lift my leg up and do a little hop in. Are you "vertically challenged"?![]()
Metal A-Pillar oh $hit handles. They have some that would bolt up available for an FJ Cruiser but they are not offset like the 80 handles.
Like these except less bling somehow.

Those look cool but I've actually hit my head getting in and out and it hurts. Those would leave a mark.
In all seriousness, I'm always happy when people make custom items. I'm often a customer! But this kind of work would probably fall more into the category of a labor of love rather than a steady and reliable income source. You would be better off looking into making stuff for high sales vehicles like camrys and accords.

BTW, I've seen more home businesses fail by having to deal with unexpected volume than I've seen them fail due to lack of business.
I'm blaming @80BajaBound for breaking mine....F'in POsI just lift my leg up and do a little hop in. Are you "vertically challenged"?![]()

I have two as well. The upper just had plugs but I put a handle in. I think it's just meant to be there for RHD use.View attachment 1047572 So yeah I have two handles on mine. Just got in the truck and I find I use the A pillar one if I use one.
I don't think it's an issue for the a-pillar. For one the factory handle is metal with just a thin layer of plastic. Two the seatbelt should keep you from bending that far. Three if you do manage to go that far you'll hit your head on plenty of other thinly covered metal. If anyone was concerned they could just wrap it with a thin piece of foam and be more protected than the OEM.IMO, not a good idea, that is a big chunk of metal near your head in a rollover accident.......
