What do you use to carry your tools in your rig? (2 Viewers)

BTW, I have used my stuff FAR MORE for other people than for myself ;)

Same here. I prefer to do my wrenching in the shop. If I need to work on my stuff it is normally a major unforseen failure (like when I ripped the steering box off the frame of my 4Runner). I carry a lot more tools than I actually need because I end up working on other people's junk haha

Pictured storage for 95% of my tools and spares. Everything is packed tight with lots of rags makes for zero noise when traveling. The 2 sawzall boxes and BFH weight is 88lbs with fluids and other parts Im close to 100lbs and Im comfortable going anywhere solo.

To answer the original question in this post, I lined my drawer system with rubber mats like you use in your workshop. I then broke my tools up by type (wrenches, screw drivers, socket set) and put each type in those large cloth bags you re-use at the grocery store. I tied them up tight with the straps and stored them in the drawers. They don't make much noise because of the matting in the drawers.
I did a similar thing.
Tool drawer with a rubber mat bottom, 1st layer is socket storage two cross bars, socket holders bolted all around

Then a thin foam pad goes down and the 2nd layer is my impact, battery, vice grip, ring pliers, tool roll and a box with general electrical spares, fuses / links, jb weld, steel stick, tire patches etc. Then on top of that I have a final foam cover.

Yes it sounds like a lot but its really not that much to deal with and there are absolutely no rattles or clanks.
If I need to work on the engine or someone else's vehicle it's only 2 seconds to take the whole drawer out and carry it over.

Under my tool drawer I have an open bay with; spare rear lower control arm, spare rear driveshaft, compartment bin with bolts, nuts, washers, cones, studs, spare electrical components (FPR, Fuel Pump, dizzy rotor, battery terminals), grinder and trail welder kit.

Then behind the passenger rear wheel well in the sub-woofer pocket I keep: Engine / Trans Oil, Brake Fluid, hoses ranging from vacuum - 5/8, spare fan belts, 6010 welding rod, machete, hammock, latrine.

In the glovebox (which I lined with 1/2" foam) I have: bit box with 32 bits, driver, small needle nose pliers, fuses, 1 pair of latex gloves, flashlight, valve cores, allergy pills, eye drops, 1 pair of work gloves, pen and small note pad.

Center console: Winch controller, front window shades, cell chargers, advil, micro-spikes (if its the winter), back up hand held HAM radio.

That's all the "tool" tools in my rig, not including recovery items, first aid / trauma kits and kitchen.

Current setup and storage, although I keep vacillating about leaving the tool boxes or building a nice drawer system to replace them.

Since the FJ80 only uses certain sized fasteners I've managed to assemble pretty much every tool you'd ever need to work on one into a medium sized bag sitting on the floor in front of the back seats, or under the back seat hardest when folded down. (~17" long by 6" wide).

Military issue canvas tool bags. They offer flexibility in space saving cram it where I can ability.

Got a list of your tools. I would love a comprehensive list off the fewest amount of tools that would allow for the most repairs on an 80 series. Obviously we aren't rebuilding motors and trans on the trail but a list of the least amounts of tools for common repairs and maintenance would be the s***

Instead of all those tools and spare parts I just tow a extra FZJ80 behind Me.

I'll post a list / pic later :)

All jokes a side. This is what I do, theirs only like 5 sizes of bolts/ nuts on a 80. I don't carry full sets just the ones I need. I picked up on flebay and keep My full good sets at home. I all so carry Critical Blade Fuses, Relays & Fusible Links and a small assortment of nuts & bolts cone washers and the likes it all fits in one small bag. In the three years I have be wheeling the 80 the only time I have used them is to help others. Its not my DD but it dose see hard trail use, The Rubicon, Johnson Valley , Moab and shouch.
I all way's do a pre run inspection.

Here you go:

8, 10, 12, 14 open/box wrenches
1/4 (for my hose clamps), 10, 12, 14, 17, 19 sockets + swivel 17mm I used during the engine swap and a socket for the lug nuts
Socket for the wheel bearings
Flex head 3/8 drive ratchet (if you only have one wrench bring a high quality, long handle, flex head 3/8 drive IMO - so much easier)
Some screw drivers
Breaker / rowdy bar (piece of tube)
Flush cutters for wires, zip ties, etc...
Etc...

Not pictured is the 1/2" breaker bar for the lug nuts and some other stuff (socket extensions, etc...) in the back near the jack. I carry a decent amount of potentially useful spare parts too but I don't want to get into that. The tools in the bag don't look like a lot but I rarely need anything else, I usually work out of the bag on maintenance projects even though I have a crap ton more tools than are in there. If I'd add anything it would be a deadblow hammer.

This is what I carry, I like the longer spanner dbl. ended box Wrenches. In my experience it's nearly impossible to remove the driveshaft bolts with the shorter open/box-end Wrenches

Thanks for contributing guys, this should be a helpful thread for a lot of people. I am going to trim my two tool bags down considerably this week, hopefully to one.
