^^^What he said. I do find it curious how many Californians move to Texas for the thriving economy, low cost of living, high education standards, lower crime rates, no state income taxes, liberal gun laws, etc.....but I rarely hear of Texans moving to Ca for all the National Land, high cost of living, low education standards, high crime, fires, earthquakes, drought, government controlled guns, high state income...sales...property taxes, Smog inspections (another worthless tax) , but maybe I'm just talking to the wrong people?

You do have great weather though...I'll give you that. There are crap areas in every state, but I stand by statement that Texas is awesome!

Wait. What? "the thriving economy, low cost of living, high education standards, lower crime rates, no state income taxes, liberal gun laws, etc." I could have all that if I move to Texas???

If I were a Texan I would say it as loud as I can it sucks.
Do you really want all that to change with all the population influx?

The bad thing about immigration or migration in this case is that those people will bring their ideology with them wherever they move to.
Once they messed up the state they lived in, they will move to a different state and mess that one too. They have the right to vote, right?

So, watch out Texas. Your sister state, California, is laughing it's ass off right now.

Saw this and think I need this on the back window...I have NO IDEA what it actually is but it was in the basement of a University building and I imagine it as a chair you sit in and push a button shooting you out to safety! :)

All that smog has melted your Comifornia brains. Libtards are moving out of there & ruining so many other states. California is the absolute s***tiest state in the entire USA. Cali sucks.

Texas has "high education standards". HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Coming from the state that wanted to include "Intelligent Design" in its Science curriculum. :hillbilly: :hmm:

Whoa, hold on. This is a landcruiser forum. Not the proper place to start making comments about the origin of the world.

Thank you for the analysis Professor. I see that you have been swept off your feet. Tell me, do you fully understand this debate? Let's put it in Mud context.....there are several threads out there that read something like, "Evolution of my land cruiser or FJ80". Meaning that it implys that these rigs have been built by nothing else than natural forces. When in fact they are built by a person with purpose. If you consider on how the word evolution has now taken on different definitions other than changes in genetic frequencies within a population may point to the fact that the laymen as well as many scientists find it very difficult to grasp. Even more so when one considers the Big Bang thoery (not to be confused with the stupefying of America). If you are completely honest with yourself, do you really believe that what you see around you and your ability to take your little opposable thumb to grab a wrench is a cosmic accident? If you do, then you need to really dig deep into what the argument is really about and then make your conclusion. I commend you for making this comment on Intelligent Design, even if it is superficial. It is the first step to challange what you've been spoon fed. Keep challanging. Dig my friend....then you will know the truth and the truth will set you free.

No kidding canman. Back to the 80's and get off the soapbox people.

Had my newest son help me clean wrenches on the tailgate.

I like the product you made and the fact that you put the time and sweat in to make it happen.

This is what I was referring to: "Nothing like saving $160 by putting in the time yourself."

I do as much work on my car as I can, so I like it even better when I can save a buck while doing it.
Lots of people here like to "stick it to the vendors" when they come up with something on their own. I love it when people do the work themselves and are talented and come up with a decent product. But, rubbing it in that the vendors make too much money selling us some products is not nice and it's also untrue. They dedicate a lot time to come up with a specific product and their time is valuable too. Whether they do it in their spare time or full time, someone's time should be compensated for.

I would boot attempt to build my own rack for a few reasons. I don't have the necessary tools (they cost money to acquire), it takes time to lear how to properly use it (and time as I said is valuable), it will take a few trials to make the product good and that's is a waste of material, knowledge, time and money especially if you don't intend on recouping your investment by selling more of those products.
For that reason I will not bash the vendors and I will buy their products if I need them.

Valid points. However, I'd have to say that for the majority of the jerry can holders like the one I just made, the prices are ridiculous. That's not directed at any one company or design, but at a certain point, pricing gets silly for this stuff.

Here I made one for 30 dollars in materials. Now, that's one guy buying stock from local metal shops and actually having to special order a hinge and clasp. Think what these large companies who use lesser quality stock and hardware are getting this stuff for? Hell, I'd venture to say that most of them are making these from waste, or could if they wanted. Then, you charge your loyal customers more than 10x the cost of production? I know we're in a capitalist country, but let's be real. There are things I like about capitalism and this isn't one of them. Then again, we don't have to buy things that we don't see as fairly priced.

Anyhow, I'm new to this form in particular, but not forums in general. I'm a huge Audi/VW/Porsche enthusiast and I know just what you mean about members making it hard on vendors. I don't agree with it most of the time, but, these are public forums where people can (within reason) say anything they want.

Now, there are plenty of products out there that obviously require weeks if not years of research and testing and come with a justified price tag. Things I could never make in my garage and that would cost me way too much to even attempt. Not to mention certain things are better left to the pros, right?

I suppose there are some of us that'd prefer to have our hands dirty and see a job well done (at least in our own eyes) than blindly pay exorbitant prices for things we can have fun and save money doing ourselves.

I would set LA aside from California. LA is the worst place I have been. The rest of the state is pretty sweet from the time I have spent there. I try not to get to caught up on politics. If I had to give up my arsenal in trade for playing around on public land 24/7 I would be the first person dumping my guns on the government lawn.
As for Texas I wouldn't live anywhere else except the Austin area. And If I didn't have handed down family land I would probably think of moving elsewhere.

I broke my '94 FZJ Sunday evening. While scoping out the NSS, thinking it will need replaced to get my reverse indicator and lights working, I jiggled the connectors a bit. I didn't take them apart, but was trying to sort out which connectors I need to get at. Then the truck wouldn't start. It just clicked. I wiggled the connectors a bit more and it started again. Then on Monday morning when I got in to drive to work the truck started fine, but wouldn't make enough power to run much faster than idle.

Now I know what I'll be doing with my 80 next weekend... checking and cleaning every connector I can find, starting with the NSS. I'm hoping this will fix my reverse light and an intermittent freeway power loss issue that it's had since I bought it.

I've only had my 80 for about 3 months, and love it despite little "quirks" like this!

I'm getting ready to dig in to my front brakes today. I'm experiencing a little squealing noise when I start going from stopped. Only when I start going, not stopping. My pads are 60,000+ old. Everything else is original from 1992. Do I need to replace anything else besides the pads? I've never replaced the brake pads by myself before and am probably a 2-3  mechanic. However, I think I can handle most anything with the proper guidance. Today I'm just digging in to look so I can order whatever I need and have it for this weekend. What should I be looking for? Thanks.

I've heard of people going to 100 series pads. Can I do this without modifying my 15" wheels? Or should I just stick with stock OEM pads. I've never had an issue with stopping before but if I can upgrade without modifying to get better stopping then I would.

1992 FJ80 234k miles. 15" wheels. Pretty much bone stock.
