Found out what a PITA brake bleeding is on these things after replacing wheel cylinders. After just bleeding the rear resulted in very spongy brakes, I did my homework. While I was at it I went ahead & replaced all the brake hoses then bled all 4 corners with the LSPV after each. I was able to take it out for a test run & the brakes work better than ever...

First dusty trek in the new-to-us LX; AZ, northeast of PHX: from the native environment for the truck up Four Peaks Road, over to Lake Roosevelt, and down the Apache trail.

Replaced radiator with an all-metal CSM, new OEM t-stat and bypass hose. Looks like it was time! Flushed the system and made sure to use Distilled water and green coolant for the refill.

Looks like PO had been using hard, tap water. I was a little worried when I opened it up, but turns out it was just calcium buildup from hard water and sludge from the coolant. Cleaned up pretty good and she's humming along now...nice and cool.

I attempted to move my electrical upgrade further along.

This resulted in a lot of time spent not knowing where to start, and a lot of second guessing about whether i had the components i wanted or needed.

All i accomplished in any decisive way was wiring a 1kw inverter to the aux battery with 4ga wire through the grommet in the transmission hump and through a 150A mini-ANL fuse block.

And i put a Blue Sea USB charger in the shifter console.

I decided that doing much of this without any way of crimping lugs was a bad idea, so I ordered a cheap hammer type crimper from amazon. And i sort of decided that i should do this in concert with my alternator upgrade. I need to go over my plans and figure out if i have enough 2ga ANL fuse blocks.

wired up a starter button since i was sick and tired of having to pop the hood, get out of the truck, touch jumper wire onto battery, close hood and then get back in to drive. Now i can start the truck with the push of a button and forget about all the NSS, ignition crap...

What type of tires did you go with?

Firestone Destination A/T's. Absolutely the quietest, most well-balanced tire I've had. It was between BFG A/Ts and these and I'm glad I didn't cave in to peer pressure and buy the BFGs.

Removed the passenger side headrest so my kids can see out the front better when in the carseat in the rear. They love the increased visibility!

(Edit: Yes, I keep the head rest with me so it can be put in if I have a passenger.)

2nd. Why does everyone remove the rear heater? I love that thing in the winter.

Don't need it here in the south... Less points for failure. I have mine deleted too. I have used the one in my 4runner when up north in the winter and it was nice.

ACC Toyota used to have a entire cooling system kit with all OEM hoses as a package deal for a good price at one time. Not sure if they still offer it though.

I removed mine instead of redoing the lines under the back of the truck. Also my rear heater was always covered by the folded up rear seat.

I put a fuse panel and some circuit breakers under my passenger seat

Took the 80 out for its first real trail run since buying it. We did Gold mountain and White mountain up in big bear.

I don’t think the original owner used any of it’s off road capabilities so this was probable the most off road it has ever seen.
It did great! Used the rear locker a couple of times just because, but it just walked right through all of the stuff that some of the Tacoma’s and FJ’s struggled with. I don’t think I lifted a tire once.
The stock running boards got a little tweaked and one rear bumper corner tore off its support at the back wheel well from stuffing the tires but that is just more motivation to finish my rear bumper design and get going on some sliders.
The shocks did great! I had just put an updated tune in the shocks the weekend before and was pleased. I didn’t get a chance to drive it quite hard enough to know what the next revision will be as I had my 4 year old with me.

I'm curious to know just how much hose was included in that removal. I'm tempted to replace the lot of it with silicone. It'd be nice to know a ballpark figure for how many feet I'll need.

Here in Utah we experience both extremes of weather, so i like my rear heater AND i wish i had rear AC.

Moved the trans cooler hose out away from the new radiator. The mechanic who installed the radiator had the radiator sitting on top of it.
Installed the Sequoia 150A alternator ($50 from ebay + new brush) and braket from Photoman along with the upgraded battery cables from Fourrunner
