It has been a full week since I replaced the jumper with the relay and the battery has not died on me. Today was the first time I started it in 4 days.
Fixed my death wobble.
Cleaned the weld up best we could and had to stack some welds. The old bugger welds are from when I tried to fix it last time.
Also installed the Redhead. Need to take some measurements so I can get my PSC ram and get the assist going

Might've been the last weekend trip for the 80 & LX outside Phoenix for a bit, we'll see.
Anyways: on the docket today was the Montana Mountain Loop, east-southeast of Phoenix, starting at the town of Superior , AZ.
The message for today: Arizona isn't all flat sand and cactus. We started at 2430ft elevation, top was 5430 ft, air-up at 2075ft. Total trip from air-down to air-up 32 miles.
Team LX80 waiting at a wide spot int the road for another party to come down the switchback section. There aren't many places with enough room for 2-way traffic. Actually, the pleasant experience was that everyone we encountered (except perhaps the youngster by himself in a green Jeep who seemed scared...) was considerate , and we were all working to find enough space so that we could get by and continue on our way.

Looking back at the valley where we came from...
The flat-topped mountain in the haze on the right side is Picket Post mountain, and you might be able to make out a sliver of the town of Superior following the foot of the mountain to the left. Superior is a mining town, like many others in this part of Arizona.
The old lunch spot about midway through the trail fell victim to the Adessa fire in 2024:

OK, fine, back to Saguaro cacti: as the trail descends back down, we get back to views similar to those of the last few weekends.
After air-up, driving back Hwy 60 towards Phoenix, we were treated to a spectacular show of colors at sundown (apologies, no pix, we were driving, after all). We had a really good time on those weekend trips. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.

No, youre correct. Ive already seen it and Im going to fix it before i finish the exhaust. Im glad i bought these new/used, if i paid full price plus shipping from aus, id be pissed..

The trail can easily accommodate a full-size truck, but the moment someone comes the other way... well, I'm sure glad I didn't bring the K5 today. It was close enough with the two 80-series trucks. It is really neat up there, but it was a bit too hazy today for great landscape pix.
There's a fire burning, quite a bit further north, not sure that contributed to the haze.
those should be welded inside and out.
Tore into the Valve Seal job on my FZJ. It's needed seals for 60k miles so I decided now was the time. The PO had done a headgasket job and used non-OEM seals. Most of them were hard and crumbling. A couple weren't even seated on the valve guides.
The engine looks SUPER clean for 320k miles!
I hope to have it back on the road tomorrow.

Did the first oil change on my new LX450 this weekend. Had the worst time with the oil filter. It was on way too tight. My normal filter socket rounded it off, couldn't get a strap wrench to work in the tight area. Had to buy one of those planetary gear gripper tools, made a hole in the filter and a big mess, needed a long ratchet to crack it loose.
I'm not a violent person but if I had the address of whoever put this filter on...
Also wired up my Stedi lights. I've got the same set on my 70. Really like that they come with a wiring harness and relay that handles tying into the high beams. I used the generic switch they come with but hope to get a more factory switch wired at some point.
Also got my GFC RTT moved over, now on its third Cruiser.

I always seem to have trouble with the oil filters and I know I put them on hand tight
there in a spot where you just can't get to them easy and they just seem to weld them self's On

Yeah, i think my first ome went like that, too. I had to crush it with a water pump pliers to get it off.
Almost every one I put on by myself I was able to remove by hand later. Spin it on until the gasket touches and then 90 more degrees is what I do. I have the YZZD3 filter socket if it's too tight, but even that just rounded off immediately. Whoever put this on had either the meatiest paws or used an actual tool to put it on.
Drove it to work and realized it is wayyy to dirty when I took this photo.
Constantly taking the rig fishing, hunting, camping, and using it for all kinds of offroad shenanigans is a good excuse to keep putting off cleaning it

That is extremely clean, especially if you have been running with leaking valve seals for a long period of time.
Now is also a great time to replace the fuel injector o-rings, pre-emptively wrap the fuel injector harness wiring with fiberglass wrap, as well as replace the fuel pressure regulator (on the fuel rail)
looking further…. might want think about also replacing those heater hoses and heater valve. they look original (other than the blue inlet hose). Might set you back a couple of days getting back on the road, but they are soooo much easier to access with the throttle body and valve cover removed.

My life got better after I got this oil filter socket.
Description was "73mm 14 flutes Bulk Filter Wrench" and it perfectly fits the 90915-YZZD3 oil filter.
