I think you missed the most important part you have much harder time getting off the trail with a damaged drive shaft.
Put you money where your mouth is because Cruiser & Company is almost ready to release the OBD1 turbo

I will let you know. Thats my 93 they (C&C) are developing the Turbo with. Cant wait!! I have been wishing to Santa ever since I got my 80 5 yrs ago.

Took my cruiser to my dad’s shop to spend a few hours trying to figure out why it won’t idle. We tried a bunch of things like cleaning the amf and iac valve. No luck till he pulled of the main air intake tube right by the throttle body and lo and behold a huge tear! Wrapped it with shrink wrap and tape to see if it made a difference and she is back on the road! I realize now what happened, as I lowered the trans and engine to get the old trans out it had to have ripped then. Gotta order a new one now. Just very glad to have it figured out

isn't it great when its the easy stuff? it is hard to see tears in that bellows tube until you fully remove it.

I just got an estimate for rerouting my exhaust over the frame this morning... $1,900.

With the magnaflow muffler it was only 250$

Ya now the drive shaft will take the hit.
You can continue on with a smashed muffler not so much with a smashed/broken drive shaft.
Mr T had it right when he lined the bottom of the muffler up with the bottom of the gas tank skid. It helps protect the drive shaft.
I have seen to many broken drive shafts on the trail after the owner did this.

Well if your smashing the driveshaft than your doing it wrong and should probably stick to fire roads

Again I don’t know how your smashing drive shafts unless your just rock bouncing it. You should keep them tires on the rocks

Started tearing down the knuckles and hubs on the HDJ81. I tried this air hammer to get off the cone washers. I would not do this job without it ever again. The gun was like 15 bucks and the bit around 30. Makes it so easy with low psi on the compressor. Basically vibrates them loose. I have a groove on the back side of the hub. I think this is where the dust seal rides. Anything to do about it? Is it anything to worry about?
