Found out the issue was the timing way off. Easy fix but the alternator swap didn’t fix this god awful whine noise. Anyone experienced this before?

It sounds like your belts could be too tight. Yes, there is such a problem and it will shorten the life of your new alternator bearings.

If this started after doing some of the work, you'll also want to check everything you already touched, as evidenced by the distributor being mistimed. A noise like that could be from the intake, possibly a vacuum leak. It also reminds me a bit of hydraulic hammering, from either the power steering or the fuel lines. A mechanic's stethoscope could help with pinpointing the problem.

Spent a long weekend out at Leslie Gulch in way eastern Oregon…

its been there long before all the work took place it sounds like it coming from the PS resi. I'm gonna swap the lines and the resi first to see if thats the fix. i also have the other vacuum valves located under the intake manifold coming to change for the hell of it.

Power steering noise either comes from air (or other contaminants) in the fluid, or a failing pump.

I’m guessing there’s not many hills between you and the exhaust shop? I’ve towed around 4,000 pounds total and that was way more than enough for my 80.
Alabama vs Vermont 🤣

Got some stickers!! Not sure if I should send this super charger to be rebuilt or run it after I rebuild the engine and see how it does. The charger has 300k and have no idea if it was ever rebuilt. I know the oil was changed often but thats about all the info I got.

Cost of rebuild vs cost of rebuild if you run it as is and it goes bad? As attentive to detail as you seem to be, I’m guessing that you’ll send it out for a rebuild, but I’ve been wrong before.

Well jon Bond is a couple month wait from what I understand and $1k rebuild plus shipping both ways. I was thinking about sending as soon as I pull it off so I have minimal down time as I rebuild the motor. But the stars have aligned and I have a brand new short block and a refreshed head already on the shelf so the plan is to just run it with new pulleys and a belt. If it needs rebuilt I will do so after the engine rebuild.
