Personally I’m not a fan of heavy bumpers with dual swing/outs unless needed or wanting to hit up the local Boba house.
This is clean and functional.
And you get a nice view of the business end of the truck.
Also enhanced drivability I’ve had both.

Ya I have no need for a ****ing table and ladder and 38 gas cans. I can go a few hundred miles on fuel even off road.

Hit a milestone with the cruiser yesterday. 300k marks 8 years of ownership and 130,000 miles I have put on her myself since buying her when I was 14. So blown away and thankful for this truck and all the amazing places it has taken me with amazing people. Has been with me for some key moments in my life. Drove it home from the dmv, took me to prom, moved me in/out of college, and moved me up to where I currently reside in Aspen. Not to mention the many trips with friends alll around North America.

Still running like a top and hoping for many more miles and adventures to come. I debating treating her to a new exhaust system that it is probably due for, or a driver side Scheelman seat.

Also put together a little album of some photos of it through the years. Pretty fun to see the evolution of it through my time with it.

don't forget your triple resi stage 9000 Slinky! for high speed trophy truckin.

My daughter has taken to pointing out all the rigs that "go on many adventures"

Basically anyone with a snorkel and a rtt that's just driving around.

You can ask Matt, my rigs not the best equipped but I give her hell.

Amazing post, as usual. Thanks for sharing!

Most add on crap is for show on the 80, I drove mine for 21 years with nothing more than a mild lift, 35's and a receiver hitch. Had a blast and wouldn't change a thing, I have to say with all this shi@t I added on it is much more convenient but hasn't got me any further than I need or want to go... Suppose how deep your wallet is and what your looking to do. The more you add on the less "80" it feels unfortunately.

You sure you want me to weigh in? I have dual swing outs. 🤔

I also have a dorkel on the trail truck which has definitely never seen a Boba parking lot.

You also mercilessly beat the rigs. You're an exception not the rule.

My wallet is plenty deep. I've got some stupid rigs at my house. But some of these builds where dudes are focused on keeping their cheese fresh on the trail makes me laugh.

Well when it's a daily driver and a once and a while trail rig your don't need cheese but some of us that go for days on end, maybe a 30 mile MTB ride, hike a 20 mile trail and bring the backpack tent, want to bust out the kayak, it's pretty important to throw that fresh cheese on a sandwich every few days!
Not for you today, all good but give it 20 years behind the wheel and that may change:meh:

Howdy. I'm just poking fun here. I've owned some big 80s with slinkys and swing-outs and dorkles. I also have a few buddies that like to hit up the boba shop that drive their modestly built, rusty, old 60 Series from Texas to Baja to surf and fish with only some Yakima crossbars to haul their gear.

Sent this one on its way to @Alpine4X4 yesterday.
Figured since we did a full re-power, ATF Speed trans ++++ we should put some decent tires on it. My buddy Rex @ Wrecks and Effects did a nice paint the hood burn and paint roof and blend. Not full re-paint but very acceptable.10.5 footer.

Beauty of a rebuild, man. I know you did it right! I think my ratio of horsepower regained / hours invested was like .0000001. 😜

Not saying I don't hit up the boba shop ... I just don't take the 80s

In all fairness, there's no one perfect 80 build. Everything is a compromise in some respect. I have 1 heavy 80 with v8 power, great road manners, drawers to store camping stuff and nice seats for long rides. The other isn't comfortable and doesn't have near as much power ... but weighs a lot less and gets thrown at buggy lines.

How old do you think I am?
I go for days on end off road. We do jerky, nuts and freeze dried food. Jet boil and pack light.

If my maths correct I've had my driver's license for 27 years now...
