Make sure you hit all 5 zerks on a dc shaft! 3 circled at the double cardan end and the other two u joints at the other end. In the pic you can see the red grease squirting out indicating well greased. You can also see what a pita the Slee belly skid is. But I like it. Burp those center spline zerks after! Who is the maker of your DC shaft? Curious about that center zerk. Tom woods built mine and it has a cup style center fitting as they said it’s the only one that will fit.

Performed an unplanned tupperware delete
 
Epic weekend on the Rubicon and Fordyce Creek. 12 rigs, (11 jeeps and 1 Yota), My 80 broke down on the bottom of Cadillac Hill with a busted radiator, fan and shroud (broken front driver engine mount) the 1st day of our trip. We managed to drive out to Tahoe City to source a radiator in less than 7 hrs along with a brand new drive shaft for another vehicle. Throw the 93+ unit on there, and had to rig it up to fit. Ditched the fan clutch and just running 2 pusher fans up front (I had those wired up for additional cooling and they turned out to be a life saver) Continue from Rubicon Spring all the way to Buck Island to meet up with the rest of the group. (Had to pull over a couple times going up Big Sluce to let the rig cool as my tranny temp was over 230F without a radiator fan...Made it up to Buck and camped for a couple days and made our way back to Cadillac Hill. We managed to limp up without fuss and sourced a puller fan for the radiator so we can continue Sierra Trek Friday. Engine temp and tranny temp was a bit hot, but that was the best we could have done for a trail fix. We managed to get up to Meadow Lake and completed all the Winch Hills with the exception of Winch Hill 1. By the time we got to Meadow lake around 9pm (We had to stop many times along the way to wait for broken down vehicles to clear the trail, i was pretty beat. Skipped the River run the next day and hung around the camp to relax (I was not going to push my luck this time around with the 80s being injured the entire time beside i still have an 8 hrs drive home to LA. All in all, was an epic trip with numerous broken down vehicles to make the trip more memorable. (1 broken radiator, fan and shroud for the Yota. 3 broken drive shafts, 1 broken ring and pinion, 1 broken front axle, 1 busted tie rod ends, 1 busted front control mount (Frame side) to sums up the trip. We all made it home yesterday around midnight. Today is going to be a rough day at work...until then,,,,

That's about what happened to me last year. Broken motor mount sent my fan into the radiator just a tad climbing up Cadillac Hill. Didn't burst until I was on pavement. Very lucky for me. Limped it to the hotel in South Lake Tahoe and ordered a new one and went out to eat. Makes for a memorable trip, that's for sure. Glad your rig did so great otherwise!

i am going with electric fans for these kind of trip for now....a bit of insurance....i dont trust my motor mounts. those been replaced about 2 yrs ago along with the tranny cross memeber mounts...apparently they do not hold up for these kind of abuse...

We were hitting his head with a cargo net across from the jeep and making tons of noise, the beer did not care. He put 2 teeth mark in the front of the Dometic and shortly after, it will not hold temp. for what it is worth. The beer walked away down the street looking for another vehicle to trash. This happened at a residential neighborhood outside out AirbnB in the middle of broad daylight.

Interesting, so hard to tell if it was going off sight and familiarity with coolers or smell... It sure has it's nose stuck in the latch sniffing tho... I kind of fooled myself thinking they were sealed pretty good for smell.

No way. They can smell the cooler or refrigerator from miles away and are usually trained to look for square plastic objects inside the vehicle. They can rip the doors off if they wanted to. After this incident, all the jeep guys quickly relocated all the fridges to inside the house...talkin about a pain in the ass....

I know a K-9 handler in the prison system. He told me that his dog who is trained to detect contraband is a pain in the butt if he brings it home because it will sit in front of the refrigerator and bug him about it all night if there is beer in it. We can’t hide anything from my daughter-in-law’s K-9. He’s dual certified for drugs and apprehension. If we try to hide a toy that we want him to leave a toy alone, he will find it w/in seconds. I’m sure bears have a sense of smell that is as highly refined as these dogs.

Mine is a Landtank. Of which the dbl cardan is from a Tacoma I believe.
The center ball of your Tom woods should still be greaseable. Look for a zerk. May have to pull the ds to articulate on the bench enough to expose zerk.
