So much Chrysler hate! I happily just bought another Cummins Ram after beating the tar out of the last one and being satisfied with it (2005 3/4 ton diesel). After owning trucks from all the majors, they all have their issues. Anyone telling you otherwise is wearing blinders.

Rest of the fleet is all Lexus - 96 & 97 LX450s, GS350, GX460, LC500.

They sure got a good motor. But the rest of the truck will fall apart around it. I still think the ultimate truck is a fodge. Ford body on a dodge drive train.

That's why I typically don't buy the highest trim levels - just more stuff to break.

Apart from replacing knuckle u-joints every 50k and an eventual transmission electrical gremlin the 2005 Cummins was a great truck. Even survived being hit by other idiots on the road 3 times before I moved on to a new truck. The only thing that really messed with it was parking it for 9 months at one point. That caused all kinds of issues.

What did you do with your 80 this weekend: maintenance, fix, wheel, nothing, new mod??

Me:
Checked air in tires
Change oil&filter 180,000
Fill gas tank
Waiting on box of parts from Beno
Highlight of the weekend was parking next to a jeep to let him know Toyotas are cooler =)

The Cummins engine is the only good thing in their entire line up, and that's because they didn't make it :flipoff2:

Got the Track Spec hood vents installed, results pending, but they do look much better than I thought they would!
I tried trimming the insulation, don’t think it is going to last long, plan to eventually have to add Lizard Skin.

Does this stuff have to be sprayed or can it be brushed/rolled onto something like inside of the hood?

It should be sprayed on, apparently there are 2 types, sound and heat barriers, some people apply both types, there is even a gloss finish coat you can use as a final coat.

I plan to use the thinnest coat achievable of the heat barrier.

They bring it upon themselves. The past chairman, Lutz once stated, and I will paraphrase: You can have too much quality in a car. This was his reaction when discussing why they ranked so low in the quality arena. I can attest to this. Back when mini-vans were okay to have, and we had two children, had a dodge grand caravan. Excellent design and concept, made life with the kids and traveling around town and across the country so much nicer! Design good, execution - POOR! The worst vehicle I bought new from a dealer we have ever had. Electrical system had all kinds of gremlins.

I remember sitting on my father's cabin's porch and he was asking me about the vehicle when the windshield wipers suddenly turned on by themselves. We looked at each other and shrugged. A few more minutes go buy, it did it again! It was completely random and I noticed it many times after that. Door locks were glitchy, assembly was poor with parts failing or even falling off, very disappointing. That vehicle, in concert with an Expedition and a wonky Accord I owned, ended my desire to ever own anything but a Toyota. Are the Toyotas perfect... nope, but I have had FAR fewer problems with all my other Toyota products combined (first car was a 77 Corolla in 1980) than I did with those 3 vehicles. Well, except for a used 95 4Runner I bought, that is story for another day...

Back in February, i was able to get a backcountry permit for one of the campsites in Grand Teton National Park. We got one the last two years, so we had a good idea of what campsite to go after. Fast forward to my June trip out to Idaho and i picked up our 1994 Fzj80 out near the Idaho Falls Airport. The cruiser started right up after I connected the battery.

Got to the cabin and had to slap an old school IH8Mud sticker. Got it way back when mud was for cruisers, none of those IFS grocery getters 😂

I bought this cruiser from a friend last year and then put in new radiator, ps box and pump, all new hoses (and that phh -oof). Drove it from Virginia to Idaho after Christmas 2022. Bringing back the 2013 cruiser. I bought my first 80 back in 2003 and thought they were so comfortable compared to the 55 and 60s I had had before. The 200 series make a great cruiser for everything

Loaded down with 4 people, gear and a trailer with two singles and a tandem kayak, we went across Teton pass to the money side (Jackson Hole) and did an overnight camping trip into GTNP We dropped the first night of the trip since it rained all day and called for more rain the next day. After 4 days of rain, it let up just as we pulled into the boat launch area. A short portage got us to the next lake. Where we caught a few fish and made it through the low of 32 degrees that night. The next day, we were greeted with this amazing view. 80 ran great - had to put new window rubber in them while I was out there. I have a new hood release as this one is finicky to replace over the 4th. The 80 is everything but fast up that pass.

Stay tuned for the Yellowstone update Somewhere along the trip, we finally named the vehicle. Nebraska - cause it only likes the flatland. It has no balls compared to the ‘95 with supercharger and 4.88 gears that is in Virginia looking for a home.

Nice! Wish I would have stocked up on the original IH8MUD stickers…

While I'm monkeying around the dash... There is a 'beeper/chime', that I hear only ocassionally or intermittently when I open the door... I suspect something loose or not right with it... there's like 4 rapid beeps, a pause, 4 rapid beeps, a pause... beep beep beep beep....beep beep beep beep....beep beep beep beep.... What and where is that circuit/beeper thing called?

Found the answer here!!! Sunroof is Open indicator beeper! Who knew?!

Well, that explains alot...
