Did the thing. Brought a few family members with me for their first 4x4 experience.

Went camping up on Aspen Mountain. Fun plowing through some drifts and exploring the different spurs on the top. Came across a TRX that was STUCK. The girl that was with the guy already had a fire lit and the camp chairs out next to where they were stuck. They thought they were going to spend the night out there and apparently were already sitting there for a couple hours. Glad to have helped out and stumble upon them. Found a good camp spot after that.

Nope, this is how they go! The flanges are welded on in this manner.
Nope. If you turn it around the will be in the same plane.

I have the same ones and went through that.

That's why I know it to be true.

Awesome! Were they stuck-er than they look in that picture? Looks like they could have just shoveled out. Not doubting you, just curious.

Looks like a good day 👍

I agree with you, but regardless why would you not run it how he has it now for more clearance? Is there some advantage to having the cats vertical? They hang down more that way.

No idea. The vertically oriented one is welded that way to the downpipe. Also my sliders have a “cage” that goes around them anyway so no matter how the cats are oriented the cage is the lowest point.

Some converters are directional.

Ya, I took a 3 minute video of the whole recovery and screenshotted a photo of it towards the end of the recovery. Here is a better photo at the start. I didn’t think he was that wedged in either but he was pretty high centered. To the point that it was dragging the cruiser towards him. I’m not sure what a TRX weights but I’m willing to bet it’s a decent chunk heavier than my cruiser. Probably should have turned around and tugged him out but I totally agree, I thought he would roll right out no problem.

Old snow like that is as dense as concrete. No rolling out of that stuff 🤣

And these are. First cat is welded to the downpipe and cannot be reoriented. Second cat is directional and even if I flipped it around it’s going to be oriented the same way. It’s just how it is. Previous owner welded in a pipe in place of the cats and it was a real mess. Those welds finally rusted out and I was basically running an open down pipe since spring. Couldn’t really tackle it until now as I had to get my boat in the water for the season and this is my only large tow vehicle.

Finally had a little bit of time today to myself.

Got the remaining parts cut right away for the rear mount setup, only to realize it'll take a bit longer with square tube at first.

Since I'm pressed for time, I made a mock-up using some 1/2" solid round stock. That's when I realized I don't have any more 100mm bolts for the plates that will sandwich the frame.

Used zipties to hold it in place while I figured rear mounting.

Just glad I left enough adjustment in the skid plate slots I implemented; this was key in order to use carriage bolts at the rear. Regular bolt heads would get destroyed if they got hit by rocks.

Going to be a busy week so I'll make the rear mount with square tube sometime next week. For the meanwhile, paint is drying.

Only going to use stainless steel hardware; the zinc bolts shown are stupid 80mm length...so they won't be used.

Back in February, i was able to get a backcountry permit for one of the campsites in Grand Teton National Park. We got one the last two years, so we had a good idea of what campsite to go after. Fast forward to my June trip out to Idaho and i picked up our 1994 Fzj80 out near the Idaho Falls Airport. The cruiser started right up after I connected the battery.

Got to the cabin and had to slap an old school IH8Mud sticker. Got it way back when mud was for cruisers, none of those IFS grocery getters 😂

I bought this cruiser from a friend last year and then put in new radiator, ps box and pump, all new hoses (and that phh -oof). Drove it from Virginia to Idaho after Christmas 2022. Bringing back the 2013 cruiser. I bought my first 80 back in 2003 and thought they were so comfortable compared to the 55 and 60s I had had before. The 200 series make a great cruiser for everything

Loaded down with 4 people, gear and a trailer with two singles and a tandem kayak, we went across Teton pass to the money side (Jackson Hole) and did an overnight camping trip into GTNP We dropped the first night of the trip since it rained all day and called for more rain the next day. After 4 days of rain, it let up just as we pulled into the boat launch area. A short portage got us to the next lake. Where we caught a few fish and made it through the low of 32 degrees that night. The next day, we were greeted with this amazing view. 80 ran great - had to put new window rubber in them while I was out there. I have a new hood release as this one is finicky to replace over the 4th. The 80 is everything but fast up that pass.

Stay tuned for the Yellowstone update Somewhere along the trip, we finally named the vehicle. Nebraska - cause it only likes the flatland. It has no balls compared to the ‘95 with supercharger and 4.88 gears that is in Virginia looking for a home

What kinda kayak mount is that? Looks great
Home made with 10 series aluminum extrusion attached to the Bowfin. Love this stuff, endless possibilities. First on the list of many things to come for attachments.

700 horsepower will dig 4 holes fairly quickly.

Looks pretty nice! You should clean up that exhaust pipe going into the muffler a little bit and weld a quick bead to hold it secure before it starts rattling around (unless it already is). 😁

Thanks!

And funny you should mention the exhaust...I been meaning to cut some of it out as it's caused me to be super lazy with my DIY rear bumper.

Need the clearance to make a mount to the frame but getting hit with "I don't wannas"
