Showed a little love to my new-to-me toy...tune up and belts with a quick compression check that looked good (all cylinders matching)...;) Thanks to @abosolute-wits-end for the goodies...

And fixed the DC side of my ARB fridge cooler that came as a parts lot with the cruiser...fully functioning now!

Oh yeah...the @white-knuckleoffroad sliders too... love them!

Finished my tuffy console divider. Made it out of a/c plywood and spray painted to match the oak (color is rustoleum metallic bronze or something, search here and you’ll find)
I went with an oil based urethane just for a smoother touch.
Used drawer liner on bottoms.
1st trayis 6”.
2nd sliding tray 3 1/2”
Used a motion detecting night ligh from Home Depot. It’s perfect.
Really helps tidy this thing up. Before it was a 12” bottomless pit!

Went and shot my .300 win mag one last time before the elk hunt next weekend.

3 shots at 400 yards
3 shots at 500 yards

Target is a 6" circle

My buddy bailed on the hunt so I will be rolling solo for 9 days. Without a spotter 500 yards will be my max hunting shot but I am confident in the rifle, my hand loads, and my shooting ability out to 500.

Took mine into get the AC serviced…thought it just needed to be charged but that’s not it. Seems to be a relay that’s being chased.

While there, it was found that the PO apparently went to a huge box store to have the stereo (that doesn’t work) installed…so, a lot of excess wiring was pulled. Also pulled an old alpine 150 watt amp from under the driver seat that wasn’t secured, as well as an old Sirius receiver from under the passenger floorboard 🤷‍♂️

Master window switch fun, still not finished as I need some LED’s.

Threaded posts for the bezel crumbled when putting screws back in🤦‍♂️

JB weld to the rescue

Went to Montenegro, no issues with the cruiser. I got rid of the Kanza kitchen as it was big and bulky. Instead of the dual fuel stove from Coleman, I was using the Soto st-310 which was fine when cooking for too. Changed the electrical system to lifepo4 battery and Victron DC-DC charger, all was very good. I got rid of the awning as I thought that the weight is not really good on the roof, using Kelty 12 tarp with two poles and it was just fine.

The electrical system is now:
Orion tr smart dc-dc charger 12|12-30
Liontron smart lifepo4 100mah battery

Trip to Montenegro:

Went to get her emissions tested and she FAILED!!!

Back to the drawing board.
Damn, that reminds me, I'm up for one this month.... First time ever I can get on the rollers with the front lockouts here in Colorado! Hope it goes better than the OBDII system not ready issue I continue to fight in the past. So ready for a LT1/ 10 speed combo.

I think my catalytic convertors are shot, if you believe yours are good but still have any doubt run a gallon of denatured alcohol in your Land Cruiser 45-60 minutes prior to taking the LC in to emissions.

Do the job with one of these, like they did when it really mattered, and I'll be impressed. Oh, off-hand of course.

When it really mattered there were a lot more animals, a lot more areas open to hunting, and they weren't restricted to a limited area and limited time slot to fill a tag that specifies only being able to shoot 1 of 120 spike elk in 100 square miles after they have been chased by archery hunters and muzzle loaders for the last 2 months.

If I can get any opportunity on a spike elk I don't want to lose it because I am trying to be hard-core and hunt with an antiquated lever gun that has a trajectory like a cannon.

Now if I was hunting whitetail back east it would be a whole different story and I would probably want to hunt with one of those.

My back up rifle for the elk hunt is a husqvarna 30 .06 made in 1957.

My woods gun if I do any stalking in the PJ'S is a 1903 Springfield that my grandpa sporterized with a receiver sight. It is also chambered in .06, it's a much better rifle for snap shooting elk and mule deer in Utah than a 30-30.

I took one of these elk with the Remington 1903 and I had to pack it out 4 miles.

If you can pack an elk 4 miles I will be impressed.

I guess you are not familiar with the Winchester Model 71. Chambered in .348 Winchester.

To this day, it is the preferred rifle in Alaska for dangerous game.

My late father once harvested a deer, in Utah, with a Model 71. He said it literally drove the deer into the ground when he hit it. Apparently it also ruined a great deal of meat in the process.

Good luck in your hunt. I wish you the best success.

Ah the winchester 71, thats basically the winchester 1886 that like many other turn of the century winchester firearms was designed by my hero John Moses Browning. Only the winchester 71 was adapted to only be chambered in the .348 winchester (except for the rare 45-70 gov). And yes you are correct, that winchester .348 is definitely a thumper and I don't doubt it would drive a deer into the ground.

I certainly love old lever guns. I just got my old man a winchester model 1895 chambered in 30 aught 3. It is such a fun gun to shoot.

I think it is so amazing that you can walk into a gun store, buy a used gun thats over 100 years old, and have it still work perfectly good.

Guns are definitely my favorite kind of antique.

Got room in your museum for a gun section lol

I have a 71, an 1885 Highwall, an 1886, three 1873s an 1892 and an 1894.

That being said, my next hunt will use a real 1943 1903A4 Remington with a matching Weaver M73B1 scope.

You got me drooling now.

If I remember tomorrow I will post up a photo of my grandpa's sporterized 1903 Remington that I sometimes hunt with. It's definitely not original anymore but it sure is fun to shoot.

My A4 is a documented genuine sniper rifle from the CMP

Seriously cool, what ammo do you use in your A4?

My old man used to have a cmp m1a match rifle. That thing was so much fun to shoot. We could bang steel at 400 yards and iron sights with that rifle all day long.

My grandpa's Remington 1903 isn't that collectible but it was my grandpa's rifle. I wouldn't sell it or trade it for anything.
