I usually peruse the hot wheels counter at O'Reilly Auto Parts and came across this gem. It made my day. Now do I build my truck to match or paint the hot wheels truck to match the build...

I put in a Toyota reman (Denso) 90A alternator.
A 4” grinder wheel from HF worked plenty well on the lower bracket/motor mount, but the real trick was the upper bracket.
Toyota part# 16381-61060 is NLA, but it looks only an inch or so different in slot distance, so I gave it a shot. I drilled a hole or two further along the adjustment channel arc, followed by a grind and dremel to smooth it out.
The finish is terrible, but it works.

I ended up needing a 90mm long m8 bolt with 1.25 thread pitch (threaded all the way to the cap) from the hardware store, as the stock tensioner bolt wasn’t threaded up far enough to take out the slack the 90A alt’s tensioner ear/tab location introduces.

Picture of horrendously mangled 80A bracket for posterity.

They sit nice, big break upgrade will be a good one. Time for some meaty new rubber!
Thanks, man! Yeah, better brakes are a definite need now. I plan to stick at 33ish until my diffs are regeared, then see how it feels.
It’s a tad tall for me atm, and the regear should fix that.

I bought it, had the transmission plug washer replaced and started tightening up all the loose screws. I had my mechanic check all the fluid containers top to bottom and determine the steering issue. Old tie rod is the issue. Other than that, it runs great and has no leaks, zero rust and runs like a new one. Looking forward to checking out this site and others LC’s. I‘ve had many 4runners and Tacoma’s but never a LC. Cheers!

Did you pull the tcase to fix it or were you able to remove the tail housing and get to the bearings?
Robbie Antonson (Boulder) had a rebuilt rear nose and we swapped out my existing rear t-case nose for the rebuilt one.

Gotcha. Thank you.
mine has been making noise and I’m fairly certain it’s the same issue. I happen to have another case in the garage. I might try swapping the case or just the rear section and see if it helps.

Splitting it from the T-case while still in the truck is a breeze. So is the “rebuild”. It’s only one bearing.

Good luck. I swapped the factory bearing at 260,000mi “while I was in there” it looked pristine. Swapped it again recently because of the growl I can’t figure out and and it didn’t change a thing.

Question, are you talking about the bearing that would be here? Could have done mine when I removed my VC

Update on my growl, drove to Houston for work yesterday and it’s still there although much less pronounced. It’s like the new rear DS got rid of most of it but it still is audible but less frequent and not near as loud.

Yes, down in the very bottom of that. (Not visible in pic)

That's pretty easy to get to. I may hold off since I'm debating going to underdrive gears in my TC. If I go that route I'd be doing a complete TC rebuild.

Drove it through the most intense lightning storm I have ever seen.

Drove up to upstate South Carolina and western North Carolina for a camp trip and exploring a bit. Didn’t know we would be going into horrendous floods. We probably saw the waters rise 12-15 feet at the French Broad. Mandatory evacuations and the works. Pretty wild.

Did get in a good view before the rains came at least.

There’s a group of us near you right now. Check out the Upstate Cruisers club section for details if you want to meet up.
