Some new snow in the Sierra, did about 30 miles of it, aired down to 15 psi being that it was very dry snow

Snow day is not complete without a campfire to warm by...

Snowing with the sun setting, just awesome!

10 miles in and this feral pig of a fir tree was across the rd...cut a section out of it and winched it to the side...onward and upward ;)

sunday i pulled a moving van off out of the courtyard at the apartment, it wasnt quite sunk up to the axles but it was close. on a side note has anyone had issues with the cdl unlocking after a hard pull, mine eventually unlocked but it took longer than usual.

Ya, I typical would have to drive in reverse unloaded to get mine to unlock on occasion.

Man, all these pictures of snow, and I was out this afternoon after work messing with the truck in shorts and a t-shirt. I'm happy though because it's been chilly and spitting rainy the past week or so. Did one good thing and one bad thing while I'm eagerly awaiting my Wits End Power Steering Kit to arrive.

So, first up, I went out last night and discovered I hadn't shut my door all the way (Have to shut it hard) and it was open enough to trigger the dome light and drained the battery. This is my first lifted truck and it was a treat figuring out how to get that freaking heavy battery out of the truck with it WAY up there and my itty bitty legs. I got it done, charged back up and back in the truck, all good.

Second is a little side project I've been working on. I hate gold on a vehicle, personal thing, just seems tacky to me. Some people love it, more power to them, not my thing on my truck. So project un-gold is under way. Pulled the rear emblems off, they weren't in great condition anyway, especially the Toyota logo.

I'd debadge it if it weren't for the holes. I mean, right there in that spot there's two "Toyotas" and one logo. Seriously, we know it's a Toyota all right.

I found this emblem on ebay, took FOREVER for it to get to me from China. But it wasn't the china part that made it hard, it was USPS sending it back and forth between Grapevine TX and Atlanta Georgia several times. Not quite as big as the original but I like it. I got two in the package, more on that later.

The nastiness behind the logo. I didn't even take a picture of what was behind the 4WD logo because it looked like a moldy chocolate bar.

Goo gone wasn't doing anything with that. My first time using an eraser wheel. Cool gadget.

Scuffed up the emblems, didn't need much scuffing on the logo as it was already pretty pitted and weather worn, then some coats of Krylon, some sanding out a bubble I got in it, spray some more and not too bad. Painted the 4WD anyway even though it was already black so it'd match. It got a bubble too. grrrrr.

I thought I had a photo of it, but there was an hour or two of cutting the Sombrero out of a sheet of 3M adhesive. I got it pretty close. The 4WD came with pre-cut adhesive, much easier. Today I did a little paint repair trying to get some of the etching around the edges out but it's not perfect, but let's not pretend the paint job wasn't full of rock chips and stuff anyway so it'll pass muster.

My adhesive cutting wasn't perfect, but as long as you don't look too close it looks pretty good. It's better than the gold anyway.

The 4WD might be a tad too far to the left, because it's not quite matching the curve and the point of the 4 is pulling a little bit. I got two of them and two adhesive strips so maybe I'll fix that another time. Good enough for now.

Now I need to give it a bath so the rest of the truck matches the clean spots I made.

If anyone is interested I am documenting the entire process of my 1993 FZJ80 engine rebuild, frame restoration, and painting my body. Going to be a TON of videos, mostly of me being an idiot and not knowing what I am doing. Would LOVE for you to subscribe mostly to let me know when I am an idiot and say something wrong or forget an important part. Thanks!

Hey man - watched your latest video. I just finished doing this and you’ve got to get those parts and bolts organized. Use ziplock bags and label everything. Also important to understand what everything is. Watch OTRAMMs videos on YouTube.

Got the head off. I am a complete idiot and did it totally wrong. I did the bolts in order, but took them completely out 1 by 1. Not doing a teeny bit for each bolt around and around. Hope I didn't warp the head but will have the machine shop inspect it. Oh well, was pretty cool! Worst case I get a new head. Looks like its the stock head gasket, came off pretty easy. Lots of carbon buildup everywhere. Man this motor is going to clean up so well I can hardly wait.

Yeah after every night of wrenching I bag them all up. Eventually I remember where they all went so I've got them all labeled and grouped together. I need to do it more than anyone else, I have the absolute worst memory. That's partly why I make the videos as well, so I remember where they all go :) Bought a FSM as well which has been great.

Unless you ordered a new spindle, when you tear it down pay close attention to the inner spindle bushing. With that much slop at the far end of the Birfield, it wouldn't surprise me if the spindle bushing is toast as well.

You my friend are a mind reader as are the good people at cruiser outfitters. While ordering all my parts I asked is there anything I could be missing and they suggested new spindle bushings. So happy I did that since the post office took an extra 4 days then planned to deliver. Everything came in today so hopefully will be starting the reassembly tomorrow.

GREAT THREAD! can't wait to see your progress. I'll be following the as a how to for my own build. What were all the body part mounts you ordered and from whom? Care to share part numbers? Well done, Can't wait to see more.

Good good. Follow the FSM and this job is like building with legos. I just got mine running this past weekend. It’s a great feeling. Feel free to message me with questions.
