Drove it to the city. It was a cold morning.

So about a month ago, I was at @chap79 replacing the dizzy O-rings, rotor, cap, and putting on a freshly painted valve cover, while he was under the LC, I was bragging about how I did not have any. He said “it looked a little soupy underneath” and I said, “its fluid film.” Then I looked underneath and it was for sure a leak, but we could not pinpoint where.

Two weeks later, @ArmyFJ was helping me figure out a timing issue where he noticed my steering box, and what appeared to be a leak at the crank sensor. Later that evening he sent me a link from @landtank and @wearsabrowncoat to use #11 and #14 O-rings for the crank sensor and parts from Rock Auto for the steering box seals. And @ArmyFJ is such a nice guy he even offered to help.

The following day I went to Home Depot for the #11 and #14 O-rings. Cleaned up the crank sensor and installed. . too easy. Also did the 7 pin CDL mod. . . but my actuator motor isn’t engaging. Lights on the dash, transmission relay making noise. . but nothing from the actuator (to be continued on that).

At 0700 this Saturday, in the dark and cold, I am in @ArmyFJ driveway and we are starting to take out this steering box. @ArmyFJ schooled me on the art of using a torch, the FSM, and Youtube to get the job done. Had a few snags but muscled through it. Also, replace the power steering reservoir with a freshly painted one, and replace the hoses I purchased from @NLXTACY. Towards the end of putting things back together, Mrs. @ArmyFJ ordered us in the house for dinner and a beer.

. . .and if you didn’t know, adding the 1FZ-FE sticker adds 5 HP to your LC

Today I did a quick alignment. I am in the ballpark of centered, but not 100%. . .I can live with that for now. In addition, I am no longer a member of the “no D light club”. Replaced the lights with LEDs. Had a few runs of trial and error because the Park light would stay on no matter what, then the low Fuel light will stay on, and the main reason I got in there, the Dive light would not come on. Just flipped the LEDs around and everything was good to go.

Nice.
Which led type did you use?
Does the dimmer works with leds?

The dimmer works. I got some cheap ones off Amazon. Any LED 194 and T4 bulbs will do. If you need more specifics, DM me and I'll help you out.

Headed south for a last minute Death Valley run with my two oldest boys and a buddy. Slept all 3 of us in the Yotahome by removing the center console. Despite freezing our bananas, a flat tire near tea kettle junction, and Sierra snow storms causing sketchy conditions on 395 and 80 (we took out a snow marker near Boady ), we made it back in one piece.

Drove from SF to CO this last weekend. Stopped somewhere off 50 in Western Utah, west of Delta to camp. Was a bit chilly, first time camping in the cruiser glad I had the right gear to stay warm. :)

Cheers

Check yer hoses....
Yup, ordered both Slee braided brake line kits today. Pass side / front brake hose shown below. Might need some coaching and or therapy when I get to the bleeding, bleeding phase.

Welp. There’s the problem. What’da y’all think? Time for some reman calipers?

two of the four bores look like this below the inner seal. I have not split them, nor have I looked at passenger side. The pistons look ok. I couldn’t pop this one with air and had to work it out with a brass drift. The pistons cleaned up ok, some anomalies at the top.

Last image is the one bore I spent most time cleaning so far.

The sealed area is created by pistons cylindrical side, rubber seal and the seal groove in the calliper if one of them is damaged it will leak.

Crawling along but it’s done right and clean. Learning along the way as well. Parts washer cleaned the brake dust shield up and other main parts. I even cleaned all of the bolts, nuts and washers. Tested out my new Milwaukee 1/2 digital torque wrench.

Over the past couple of days I dropped and reinstalled the fuel tank, not a job I want to repeat. The need was to locate a fuel leak. A few weeks ago the 80 was filled with gas and while parked on a slight incline, facing up the slope, liquid fuel began leaking. Planning ahead I ordered new gaskets, fasteners, hoses (except for the two associated with vapor lines), fuel sock.

Dropped the tank and installed new gaskets, etc. Fuel had been leaking at the large hose connection on the tank, the hose clamp was loose and the hose old. Used a floor jack, a couple of jack stands, and a smart 16 year old and the installation was easier (but not easy) than I had expected.

I had overlooked ordering the two short hoses that connect to the top of the tank and mine were looking rough. Checked with local dealership and of course not in stock, but if ordered would be $15 each. I reused what I had. I decided to use heat shrink to "refresh" them. Not sure how this will hold up but I don't think they'll be splitting anytime soon.
