Finally made it out to Anza Borrego post Thanksgiving rainstorm for an overnight camping / wheeling trip, drove up Fish Creek wash to Sandstone Canyon. Nighttime lows of 35F - cold for us California folks!

Finally installed my new ARB bumper. Need to take it back off and install the M12000 when I finish rebuilding it. Next up is sliders and a rear bumper.

D-rings on the front of your rig tell me two things: 1. you get stuck a lot and don't know you're in a Land Cruiser 2. you don't know that Land Cruisers don't get stuck a lot. FYI.

Removed my drivetrain to start the LS swap. It's incredibly easy to take the whole powertrain out as a whole when you remove the front end (bumper, condenser, radiator, core support). These are screenshots from a video I'm shooting for the project. It's not a step-by-step tutorial, just a video showing the work.

Do they sell an arm rest to go with the console? I also own a 100 series and the arm rests are so much more comfortable. I'd like to have one in my 80 as well.
The top of the console is the armrest... It's sits perfect for me. The extra height makes me feel so comfortable

Had a lesson of not to make stupid decisions. Did a once over on my truck a few weeks ago and noticed the brake fluid getting near the low mark and thought "time for new pads."

Then the stupid part I have never done before, "I'll just add some fluid and get to it next week."

Well of course I forgot and heard metal to metal.

New rotors and pads for the rear and new pads going on tonight for the front.

Picked up an OEM Toyota snorkel precleaner from Cruiser Outfitters yesterday. Edit: Technically I don't know if this is a true precleaner but that is apparently what the Toyota part description calls it. It is different from the "salad bowl" cyclonic precleaners.
This does require a bit of modification to the snorkel. The OEM snorkel is a smaller diameter than the Safari or knock-off snorkels. So the top of the snorkel slides inside of the snorkel body instead of over it on the outside. It’s a tight fit. I cut 4 small lines in the top of the snorkel body (similar to the way the original snorkel inlet is split to allow easy fitment over the body). Might have been unnecessary but I used a rubber coupler (similar to the one used to connect the snorkel to the intake/airbox inside the engine compartment) to cover the new cuts made in the snorkel and eliminate any chance of water ingress. So it’s not exactly a direct fit replacement for a Safari style snorkel but I like it.

I am playing with the idea of fitting these to the bonnet. hoping to stop a lot of that heat sinking into the body of the car after a 4-5hour drive. has anyone bought the track spec kit for their cruiser? I cannot find a pic of this kit actually fitted into an fj80 bonnet

I figured I would either just slap it on the bonnet, or, cut the holes and glue it to the underside so it pokes out and paint the whole lot white. no rivets, no colour difference. the support structure of the bonnet is only glued in place anyway.

thoughts?

There is a lot of structure you would have to cut out of in the center of the hood to make those fit. The sides woud likely work without too much issues. The one thing to remember is that you don't want water on top of the head, with the spark plug tubes in the center, you can get flooded plugs which I had after cleaning the engine and it ran terrible until I blew out the tubes.

Did the most hardcore trails Ive ever found, worse than kane creek(hamburger hill) tougher than AZ. tighter and sloppier than northeast. I went to the OZARKS. I had no idea what flat nasty meant its like the rubicon in new hampshire and for the first time really had to winch or she was going over. no joke. And of of course its all on video
