What’s trails/campsite are you planning?

I’m going out to this year’s Desert Rendezvous. 130 trucks in attendance, starts on Thursday meeting off split mountain rd near fish creek. I have no trail runs planned but will likely tag along on some. Perhaps if a group is willing to run pinion Mtn backwards and then come back down so I don’t have to rip my flares off going through the squeeze. Otherwise it is just a good trip of cleaning up all the trash, exploring, and hanging out with friends.

Got my Dobinsons drawers installed. Had a couple of friends helping me and it went pretty smoothly, just one step a time. The drawers mount on the third row seat bolts. The issue we ran into was the two mounting ribs for the drawers could not be placed perfectly between the front and back bolts. It was about half a bolt width off. No amount of shimmying and wiggling could ever get it any closer. Eventually I just used a Dremmel to widen the slot a bit on both sides. Also, there are 8 seat bolts, but the slots only work for 4 of them (without modification). So just plug the extra holes with rubber stoppers. You can also put the extra bolts back through the capture nut on the bottom of the truck.

The drawers are super smooth. I have the portable single piston ARB compressor (the gray box in the picture), which just barely doesn't fit in the drawer. I took the lid off and now it's a perfect fit: all the recovery gear, a ratchet set, and the compressor fit in the left drawer.

Instead of just repainting it or finding a newer one, decided to do it the hard way and found me one if these fancy setups!

Did some cutting. It's tempting to cut a little more and build a full bumper, but unfortunately I don't have time for that. Hopefully I'll get the beefy new cross member finished up next weekend.

Even though I had my receiver hitch tied into the frame further up, 4 bolts and a bike rack did some damage to the factory cross member.

While I was cutting, I decided to chop off the nasty and crunched tail pipe. Then I welded on a little downturn to aim it down to the ground. I also added a little hanger to hold it up and prevent any unnecessary stress on the rest of the exhaust.

Then replaced the AC compressor and added a ford starter solenoid to fix the occasional delay.

Crossed state lines to get coffee this AM ...

This is the Washington Crossing Bridge spanning the Delaware River between NJ and PA. It is 114 years old and the total width is 15' (7.5' for each lane). It is located at the spot where George Washington crossed the Delaware River in 1776 in the Battle of Trenton during the Revolutionary War.

Mirrors need to be folded in to make it across without hitting the bridge or oncoming traffic. I cross this 3 times daily and every morning there are new smashed mirrors on the road deck from "newbies" who haven't learned the protocol yet . Believe it or not, this bridge handles 6,500 cars a day. In the AM it is bumper to bumper.

Once upon a time, not paying attention to where Google was sending me, I ended up on that bridge in my '12 Ram pickup during evening rush. I made it across without contact, but the right side mirror was inches from the girders, and the left inches from the oncoming traffic. I try to avoid it

Be aware on your exhaust that it is HOT when driving and will melt anything near the discharge. I had a power wheelchair on a rack on the back of my LC. The front wheel of the WC happened to be in line with the standard exhaust tip where it exits the truck, but about 12" from it. On a 90 degree day, and a one hour drive, it melted the front tire of the WC into a puddle of goo.

You have brake lines in VERY close proximity back there. Also make sure you add something to it once your bumper is on so you don't get exhaust fumes up into the cab during wheeling.

I see Canadian travel trailers and occasional tractor trailers following GPS get hung up there frequently. Backing up is a real chore as ALL the cars that have followed have to back up as well.

My old ‘06 Power Wagon was actually really easy to cross. Run the passenger tires right up against the rub rail, and the mirrors were high enough to be over the roofs of most cars.

Yea I tore it all apart and sand blasted it and repainted it black and added the new 9.5xp motor and sealed everything up. Solonoid mounted under the hood with wireless remote and Amsteel Blue 125’ of rope and factor 55 fairlead and factor 55 expert link. I love it. It’s smooth and fast. Next upgrade will be the air release free spool.
