I've never been stranded. But you just never know. I'd rather have it and never need it. Plus it's fun for my son and I. Sometimes we go camping and only utilize our survival kits. It's a challenge.
Exactly. Or in a blizzard, down off of Interstate 380. A person died a couple of years ago. Broken leg, cell phone broke, snow storm.
I just packed my survival kit...

Pulled my cigarette lighter and removed the fusible link, blew it trying to run a portable air compressor, same as my last truck, lol. Much easier once you figure out how to twist and remove the lighter socket without having to pull the whole dash.
The prognosis is not good for the rear locker actuator. Can't complain too much after 25yrs and zero service of any kind.
Well not exactly... exactly this weekend.. But the last 4 weekends.. I've been busy!
1) Remove all flares, and back bumper covers.. Order all broken grommets and paint flares + bumper covers with black bed-liner.
2) Change axles and t-case gear oils
3) Reinforce my custom Spare tire carrier.. Lots of welding
4) Reattach flares and replace flare gaskets to body with new OEM trim.
5) Fix broken rear passenger side window.
6) Install in cab winch control.
7) Re-weld cracked frame on axle locating bracket front.
8) New Bushings in Front and rear axle locating arms.
9) New bushings on front control arms
10) New bushings in both upper and lower rear control arms.
11) Front axle rebuild new seals, bearings ok just re-pack, new Birfs!!!! Turned front rotors and slapped on new pads!
12 Re-welded front sway-bar to axle brackets.. and spliced/reconnected ABS line to PS front that was cut by the sway-bar while broken.
13) New Alternator.. (Broke while I was doing all of this.. )
14) Oil cover gasket (WHAT A ROYAL PITA this was I hate phillips screws for life now
)
15) New Crank seal oil seal.
16) New Battery (Dead Alternator killed my last one)
17) Dizzy O-Ring.
18) New Belts including AC belt.. Toyota OEM.
19) New T-Stat and all hoses.. + Radiator to shop for cleaning refilled with Toyota Red
.
20) New Heater diverter valve by firewall
21) Installed LED bar on the upper tailgate (turns on with rear dome light)
22) Took front seats out + DS and PS arm rests and center counsel arm rest and had them re upholstered (Love the smell of new leather)
23) Cleaned all ground contacts and contact on anything to from fuse box under hood to battery, Alternator, and Starter. (Also re-wrapped and re-ziptied harness to make it all perfect.
24) New goodyear floor-mats from Costco $14 for the set !!!
25) New windshield wipers.
26) Bedlined top of washer fluid reservoir and coolant overflow (They where getting sun rotted)
27) Steam cleaned interior while both front and back seats out.. (got rid of a million coffee stains and found $3.76 in change
+ PO's? fancy looking maybe gold ring? )
28) Changed U-joints on front and back drive shafts.
29) New interior trim pieces for the sun roof (old ones where falling apart) Also ran weed-wacker line to front drains on the sunroof, cant figure how to find or clean the back ones?
30) Ran out of time to do the Valve Cover gasket and Spark plug gaskets.. + Sparkplugs (But I think 90% of my oil leaks where the oil pump and crank.. So I now have the parts in my parts bin for another time)
30) Gave her a bath and a good waxing..
31) Out wheeling to make her look right again after all the cleaning and fixin'!
32 Forgot.. Also got rid of my fugly KC lights on the rack.. Installing a light bar.. Waiting it to get here in the mail. !
All as far as possible done with Toyota OEM parts..

Made my ARB bumper more aerodynamic and got some 9005 light bulbs fitted inside the low beam headlights.
By my calculations the new location of the license plate will net me + 0.0228 MPG

Pulled the front axle apart to fix an oil leak from the third and replace a failing seal housing for the ARB and welded some armor
to the diff housing.

What's the part number and what is it from?
I am considering replacing my transfer case rear output seal, as I have a small leak. Anyone actually done this themselves or have any advice? I have been reading all the threads on it and wouldn't mind trying it and saving myself $400+
I managed to re-break the external lower bracket for the passenger side headlight, which was previously glued by the PO. Now the yellow side marker is not able to stay in its place. Will have to zip tie it until my newly ordered Depos come in.
Started making spot light brackets from 1/8 6061 aluminum that mount behind the mirrors and put the lights in front of the mirrors this week. Built a wiring harness for two spot lights and the LED light bar and integrated my Onboard air compressor into it for a nice clean factory look. Purchased repair terminals for the fuse box so that I could run the fuses for the accessories out of the blanks in the under hood fuse box. Nice clean harness, loomed and ran through the firewall and loomed throughout the cab and wired through the factory door harnesses with loom on both sides. A lot of damn work, but I take pride in a job done right. Also installed new Slee 6" medium front and heavy rears today. Surprised to see my ride height drop 2" from the 7" TJM coils that were on there!?? Wasn't expecting that. Also was reminded of how dangerous Hi-lift jacks are, swapped my first spring, stepped back to get a picture and the jack went shooting out from under the front bumper. Luckily I wasn't in the way. I also Installed a mean green 200amp alternator to replace my failing Toyota alternator. Made sway bar drop brackets finally and wired all my switches for the lights and OBA to work with the interior illumination.
